This I agree with the most. Snow White and Aurora might be too old fashioned for some younger people and Ariel and Jasmine's attitudes may make it hard for older people to relate to them.
However, I think both Cinderella and Belle have cross generational appeal. There's something about these characters that everyone can relate to, young or old.

LOL. She does look a little like a drag queen, doesn't she? It would account for that deep voice she has lol.

Well that, and the fact that she was modeled after the incomparable Divine.
Google him.

I think Cinderella and Ariel would be the most popular if I had to choose. Both involve characters with families that oppress them and, like PrincePhillipFan said, many gays and lesbians can relate to that (yes, one of my [girl]friends really likes Ariel, and Tinkerbell). Ariel is more relatable in that way, but I think Cinderella would be next in line.
That's not to say all gays like the princesses; I'm sure there are some that hate Disney in general. Also, just to be fair, the Disney Princesses are definitely not the only films I like about Disney--only two of them make it into my top twelve.

And yet Judy Garland, Cher, and Joan Crawford have enormously huge gay fanbases...
Anyway, on page one, ichabod asked pretty much the same question and Howard, merlinjones, and Sailor Eric explained it quite well. You must've accidentally skipped their posts...
On the first page, ichabod asked and wrote:Forgive me if this seems a stupid question, but why are the princesses so popular with gay forum members here?
I mean surely logic would dictate it would be the princes that would grab their attention more?
Which was followed by these three explanations by Howard (PrincePhillipFan, but I call him Howard), merlinjones, and Sailor Eric...
Howard answered iccy's post and wrote:I think it mainly has to do with the fact that many other gay men identify themselves with a lot of the princesses in the stories. Especially in Little Mermaid, where Ariel longs to be a part of a different world she finds fascinating, which her father suppresses. Many gay people feel that they're different and are longing to find their place like Ariel, despite parents or other elder's objections. Hence why I think that Ariel and the Little Mermaid tends to have the biggest following, since its storyline hits close to home for a lot of gay people. I know that feeling myself when I tried to suppress and hide being gay for so many years, being told by others that they thought it was wrong.
merlinjones contributed as well and wrote:Because the Princes are merely supporting players (even objectives) in most of the fairy tales, while the heroines suffer, pine, sing, dance, dress-up, conquer their bitchy adversaries, experience dramatic happennings, fall in love and end up with a hot guy - - all for keeping a pure heart.
The identification factor is on the heroine.
Finally, Sailor Eric chimed in and wrote:Probably because we relate to them or we aspire to be like them or what they have (romance! ...with a "prince"!)... It's just like how we are attracted to pop icons such as Kylie Minogue, Madonna, and Britney Spears.

Not really. The poll doesn't say anything about "which one gets your juices flowin?"

amazon980, could you please edit your post and fix the Subject of this thread, the topic title, to say "BIGGEST"?
I just wanted to add to the reasons we gays like these princesses is because they are glamourous, or at least for me. It's a negative stereotype, but gay men are associated with beauty, vanity, glamour, and glitter. Dresses, jewelry, good hair. Really flashy ornamentation.
So, the princesses usually go from simple frocks to full-on poofy ballgowns or more complicated, prettier garments. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Belle, and even Jasmine gets a fancier purple outfit with some see-through material.
Dressing in girls' clothing is associated with being gay, though it is not really that common, and I think it is the minority of gay men that do it. Now, many gay boys on here don't actually seem to be into this glitzy dress-obsessed part of being gay am, but I'd be surprised if none of them have pretended to dress up in the prettier attire of one of their favorite heroines, at least when they were younger.
This is why Cinderella can be the most iconic princess for gays as she is the most iconic princess for Disney Princess. She stands for all who want to be part of the glamorous life. Her film is about how happy she is when she gets a gorgeous dress and goes dancing at the ball and falls in love with the handsome prince, mirroring the gay male's desire to get an expensive designer outfit and go dancing at a club and fall in love with a hot man. Even the ending can resonate particularly with the issue of gay marriage, as the evil stepmother in charge tries to stop Cinderella from getting married to the prince.
Of course, this is only one aspect of Cinderella, and there are just certain aspects of these princesses that appeal to gay men, while their are numerous other aspects to appeal to everyone.

Because lesbians don't exist.

Logic dictates this.
Anyway, my vote went to Aurora. That Ariel is in the lead surprises me; my powers of prediction have once again failed.

You may be right. I guess we are talking about the gay drag queens. The rest would be after the Disney princes. I am guessing that among the princes that either Eric (not to poke fun at the gay sailor stereotype cuz my hubby's a sailor) or Aladdin (if we can consider him since he married the princess).

NO. Reyquila is not right, nor could he be. A straighty can't tell what gays should or shouldn't like. I'm no drag queen, but I wouldn't mind dressing like a princess sometimes, maybe for special occasions. But I think I'm one of the few on here who would, most of the people on here wouldn't dress like a girl, and still love the princesses.
So you have a sailing hubby? Are you gay? Because if not, you have no place saying what gay men should like either.

First of all, no one has said what who is suppose to like what. No need to get sensitive over MY thoughts on a previous comment. I didn't say Reyquila was right, I said MAY BE (as in possibly or possibly not). Wasn't talking about how u want to dress, that's you. Clearly I didn't say anything about what gay men should like. Sorry that wasn't clearly understood by what I clearly typed.

Someone saying "shouldn't it be this way?" and someone else saying, "maybe you're right"...is saying maybe we should be that way! You DID make it sound like you could say what gay people like. You said "I guess we are talking about the gay drag queens", meaning only "the gay drag queens" like the Disney princesses, and all the rest like the Disney princes, because, you know, you actually said, "The rest would be after the Disney princes." And after Reyquila used the word "should" and you quoted him saying he might be right, it's only natural to think you were implying it should be all you typed after. And often people's posts start with "maybe this is right" and they back it up with reasons because they believe it is right and are telling us why it is right, like your post.
And you still didn't answer my question. Are you a gay man? Are you a gay woman?

So you are basing what your attack on me on what it sould like i COULD say even though didn't say what you are accusing me of. Only on what you THINK I may be IMPLY, when I wasn't implying a thing. And if I thought something was a completely correct then that would be cause for me to back it up. Why would I back up a "maybe" which is impartial? And what does my sexual preference have to do with anything? Nothing.

MARIAH CAREY!!!!!!!!!
Yes its true we do love those pop divas and those Disney princesses!
I tend to lean more toward the ethnic princesses. I LOVE Pocahontas, Mulan, and Jasmine. I also liked the not-so-typical princesses- Esmeralda, Megara, Alice, and Elastigirl
I do agree that we do choose the characters based on our background and our age. I am 27 and multi-racial who did not fall into a specific category growing up.

I like Belle... I guess that's mostly because BATB is my favorite Disney movie, but I like her character and her attitude.
My second favorite would be Jasmine.
(I'm a lesbian, so I guess my vote doesn't really count for the "gay man liking princesses"-mystery.

Are there Disney princess costume available in men sizes? Is there a market for that?
