Good lord!

How many DVDs will you have to buy to get that? Wouldn't you just be better off saving up for one (after all, you would presumably re-purchase some of your Disney DVDs in Blu-ray as well?)

New Line has now announced they are going Blu-Ray exclusive! This leaves only Paramount/Dreamworks and Universal. I expect Universal will be switching sides very very soon leaving Paramount with mud in their face. Here is the article from Blu-Ray.com:

New Line Shifts to Blu-ray Exclusivity
Posted January 5, 2008 by Wondermaker
Following Warner's lead, sister company New Line has confirmed that it will support Blu-ray Disc high def releases exclusively. New Line has previously delayed their day-and-date new releases on HD DVD due to the format's lack of region coding, effectively making titles such as Shoot 'em Up, Hairspray, and Rush Hour 3 exclusive to Blu-ray. Although a 2008 release slate for the studio has not been released, an announcement may be possible at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Hah, well I'm related to the people that own the local video store, so they give me the codes from their Disney DVDs they get.
Lucky me!

I only need 3,000 more till I can redeem a Blu-Ray!

New Line following Warner wasn't much of a surprise, but at least its now official.
I bet Paramont is really thinking about going back to Blu-ray soon. I'm sure there is a way to get out of their contract with HD DVD. I think Universal will be the last hold out, but I don't think it will be very long before they go neutral.
I wouldn't doubt that by May when Warner stops releasing on HD DVD that all of the studios will have Blu-ray plans, or be working on them.
At least there is 1 format now, so hopefully HDM takes off better than it has so far.

This is especially good news for all of us who jumped on the Blu-Ray bandwagon early. I knew that I had made the correct decision when I opted out of my Toshiba 'problem-child' HD-DVD player and let the salesperson talk me into going Blu-Ray.
While the picture quality is pretty much the same for both formats, the sound that comes from Blu-Ray is uncompressed, and will rock the roof of your house if you can turn it up.
While I have really limited my purchases of Blu-Ray discs in the past, waiting to see which format was going to dominate, I know now that I can start really looking into the Blu-Ray sales and start increasing my collection of Blu-Ray movies.
Probably the only double-dipping that I will do, however, will be the Lord of the Rings Trilogy when it comes to Blu-Ray. I don't plan on other double-dips except for Disney and Disney/Pixar products, which I have kept up with this past year - "Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy" is awesome in Blu-Ray and I have a new love of "Cars" in Blu-Ray.
