Scraping the barrel for Marvel characters, what a surprise.

So if I get this right, Sony has Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and the Punisher, Paramount has The Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, Universal has the Hulk and Hellboy, Warner Bros./New Line has Blade, and 20th Century Fox has the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer and Daredevil.

Now Disney has everything from Marvel that's not above-mentioned. That is very pathetic. I'm trying to think of anything that's even remotely popular and not already licensed out...

Hellboy is not a Marvel character, it belongs to Dark Horse Comics.

But, yeah, you're right in the point you're making. All the popular Marvel characters are unavailable.

Not to mention the clauses, as long as they release a new movie in a specified amount of time the contracts extend another few years.

Really, on the surface it was a great deal, in depth, not so much.

I'm not sure about one thing: do these studios who have borrowed Marvel characters have only the live-action film rights? I mean, the merchandise and adaptations in other mediums such animation or comics of borrowed characters belongs to those studios or Disney?

You're confusing licensing with distributing. The Hulk, Iron Man, The Avengers, Captain America and Thor are with Marvel, and those movies were made by Marvel Studios. Those were only distributed by Paramount and Universal. Once those contracts are done, the distribution rights will go to Disney. The rest is licensed, and if they're profitable the rights will stay with those respective studios a very long time.

In all honesty though when the rights revert back to Disney, I'm not so sure the public will want remakes of Avengers, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America. There's also Nick Fury since Sam Jackson signed a 7 picture deal. Of course I'm assuming that all of their last/first entries will be good.

You don't hear anyone screaming to remake something good and I doubt Rob Downey will return or whatever. It's all very long term profit for Disney.

In the case of the others though they screwed them up so much people would more likely be receptive to good remakes.

SpiderMan not so much but it's getting remade. Punisher, Blade, Fantastic Four had terrible last entries. X-Men also ended on a rather sordid note and Wolverine is probably the worst of them all. Ghost Rider is getting rebooted, Silver Surfer has not been made yet and they are also looking to reboot Daredevil.

Disney has seriously got to do something with the guys who come up with renaming their titles. Renaming "Secretariet" as "Taking the Crown" or "Triple Crown"??? Honestly! If a person knew nothing about thoroughbred racing, what do the words "triple crown" even mean?? At least "Secretariet" is a recognizable name to anybody who keeps up with sports OR historical events. It's like renaming "Seabiscuit" "The Santa Anita Handicap."

As for Disney remaking existing superhero films, I think this is a waste of time, money, and creativity. A better idea would be to adapt a new Marvel comic book. Marvel has a whole LIBRARY of interesting characters to choose from!

So, am I the only one who thinks Howard the Duck would work well as an animated series? Sure, the George Lucas-produced feature was kind of "eh", but he seems like a character best suited towards animation.

I'd much rather have a Disney TV show based on their own 'Duck' chacters.

Who says there will be remakes? Disney will only handle the distribution, just like Paramount/Universal does right now.

Another movie on the list that was missing (that I am really looking forward too!) is The Sorcerer's Apprentice starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel (love him!). It definitely looks like a fun, magical movie!
