Should be fun.

Just curious, why did they add 'Canadian' to the title? Is it because they air the original Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader there, too?

Yes.

Since the US version is preempted due to Fox's coverage of the World Series for the next couple of weeks, Global is doing this. Same studio, just Canadian contestants, Canadian kids, Canadian host (I think he's Canadian, anyway) and Canadian money (tax free, of course, if you win).

Global did the same thing last spring with Deal or No Deal Canada. Howie Mandal was still the host though since he's Canadian.

LOOKS LIKE I'VE MADE IT!!!!!

I got a letter from Fox Broadcasting yesterday (Wednesday) telling me that they shoot all of each month's shows on one day the first weekend of each month, and asked for my availability date.

I was offered January, February or March, 2008. My preference is January, but I also said that I was available whenever they needed me upon at least two weeks notice.

The letter also states: "This does not confirm or deny your eligibility to become a contestant for "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?", this letter is to find the availability of those in the selection process for further budgeting by the Fox Broadcasting Corporation."

So, it probably means that I have made it another step, but here's hoping!!!

Yay! That's awesome, dvdjunkie! How exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do they fly you out to California for free? I hope you make it, but I'd even be happy with a free flight to CA!

Congrats dvdjunkie!

Did anyone catch the Celebrity 5th Graders tonight? I missed Regis (had some stuff to do), but the Aiken one was ok. I think Tony Hawk, and Kellie Pickler are going to be on eventually. Does anyone know about any other celebrities that might be on? Pickler should be pretty entertaining.

Looks like the writer's strike has put a kink in the programming at Fox. I believe that after this week's celebrity 'Fifth Grader' with Kellie Pickler, there is only one more new show left and then it will either be re-runs or the show will be put on hiatus like "Prison Break" and "24". '24' is on the verge of getting itt season canceled. If the strike goes farther than December 1, 2007, the season of '24' will be postponed until next year, January 2009. There is only eight episodes in the can right now, and it would be hard to get everyone back to work and finish it if the strike goes past December 1. Same for 'Prison Break' - their season will be put on hold after next week, and may not reappear again until Spring when the next season is supposed to start at which time they will repeat the four episodes that they have shown and call it season three/four.

Will let you know if I hear any more from 'Fifth Grader', but until the strike is over, there won't be any new shows being taped.

Hey, I was just wondering if you had heard anything more about if you were going to appear on this show?

I received a letter that more or less said that due to writer's strike, they had cut back on their budget and were not flying contestants in from outside of California.

If I want to pay my way, and stay at a hotel at my expense and take a chance with a stand-by appearance I am more than welcome to come to Los Angeles the first Sunday in February or March.

Apparently they think the writer's strike is going to go on for quite some time.

When I know - you will all know. I have been watching the Celebrity Shows they have been having and they have been really entertaining. This week they had the Middle School Principal who bailed out on the "Who wrote "Gulliver's Travels" question". I knew right away it was Jonathan Swift, but he wasn't confident enough to hang in there.

I hope that this strike gets settled and I can go this season, otherwise I may have to re-tryout or something. I am not sure. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

Why don't you just pay your way? I'm sure that you will be the first million dollar winner anyway so you'll get most of your money back. :)
Or would you just stop at the half million dollar question like everyone else who has gotten that far? Either way, it's still probably better than having to try out again.
