I personally do not care for a Roger Rabbit sequel. I think it ended fine the way it did. Besides, making a sequel 20 years after the last film is never really a good idea.

I agree, I hope that they do not make a sequel.

I don't why everyone's so bummed out about this? I'm looking foward to a sequel. Just as long as the cartoon characters are in 2-D and Charles Fleischer returns.

As much as I like the original, I can't say I'm excited until more surfaces.

Roger Rabbit has always held a special place for me, I rank it right up there with the Back to the Future movies.

The shorts weren't enough for me and I'd love to see more done with the franchise.

It's not exactly new news that the filmmakers want to make another Roger Rabbit movie (they've been wanting to since the film's release, and the only major development was the early 90s prequel and the test animation in the late 90s), but it's always nice hearing more about it, even if it was just a vague "Zemeckis has an idea."

I have a feeling the toons would still be hand-drawn. After all, the first film was set in the 1940s, and if the sequel were 20 years later, it'd be the 1960s. And as far as I know, CGI animation didn't exist yet.

They could set it in present-day, though, if they wanted to have CGI animation. A newly-created CGI Roger Rabbit enlists the help of his 2D predecessor to solve the murder mystery of the CGI animator who created CGI Roger.

Way back in high school I was all excited about the upcoming Who Discovered Roger Rabbit film, which was supposed to have been released around the time I graduated. Wow, I'm revealing my age here.

Anyway, anyone know where I can see that test animation from the 90's? I did a quick look at youtube but maybe I need to dig further.

If it were set far enough in the future, maybe they could depict 2D characters losing jobs due to the execs allowing CG to take over. You know, kinda similar to how things got slow for Betty Boop when cartoons went to color.

Please no Mo-Cap! Or if it's a must, then only on some of the characters, not the entire thing, because it's not animation as many people think and actually hurts my eyes it's so messed up looking.

But I was recently watching some of the DVD's behind the scenes material, and Zemeckis even says that today it would be impossible to have such a wide range of classic cartoon characters, which was a major point of the film itself.

Ugh, I hate motion capture too, though I did enjoy Monster House. Can't stand some other ones though, like Polar Express.

Anyway, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is my all time favorite film, and I'd love to see a well-done sequel. I remember the graphic novel sequel from Marvel was about Roger's career being threatened by limited animation, which is kind of like the suggested idea of CGI threatening his career. I would prefer the film be set back in the '40's again, but I wonder how Bob Hoskins looks lately, ha, because it would've been nice to make him a part of it. Such a shame they didn't make a sequel right away (same with Dick Tracy, Rocketeer, and probably others from Disney's great Renaissance of both animation AND live-action).

I'd love to see this mysterious test footage too! I read somewhere it was a test of using CGI for the toons, which seems to be totally against the whole Roger Rabbit concept and SUCH a stupid idea!!! If they would really do it that way, I'd rather stay without a sequel or prequel.

I agree, the movie has to be live-action with 2D animation, otherwise it wouldn't be the same. I don't mind if shading and such would be applied with the computer (it helped with the Looney Tunes/live-action films) but the characters must be hand drawn.

Maybe the motion capture will be used for reference or when a toon picks up something real. Besides when asked this question, Zemeckis said "Yes and no." I have faith the toons will be 2-D, no questions asked. Again, I'm excited for the sequel!

Mo-cap is only used with 3D, though. Unless the character model was shaded with 2D shading, I think I'll pass.

Mo-cap belongs in live action. Leave animation to animators(Though I do like Zemeckis' films).

He may be encouraged to do 2D once "The Princess and the Frog" comes out and is a (hopeful) success.

I'm guessing that motion capture *might* be used in less obvious ways, perhaps for some realistic "real-life" characters for the special effects in addition to the 2D characters and live action. Some of the effects on the "real-life" Judge Doom could have been more easily handled with motion capture than the methods they used back then for example, or for certain scenes of Eddy while he was in Toon Town.

I can see how going digital will have specific advantages over the old optical printers when it comes to combining the hand-drawn toons with the live-action, and I can also see how CG can add even more to such a film.

We'll see what happens if this all comes together.

Maybe there will be a "war" between the CGI characters and the 2D ones. It'd be interesting considering the satirical value.
