Two of the child stars of the original Witch Mountain movies have signed to appear in the remake.
Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann will star in new film Race to Witch Mountain, Disney's re-imagining of 1975 adventure Escape to Witch Mountain.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Everett Scott, Chris Marquette, Billy Brown and Cheech Marin have also joined Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Ciaran Hinds and Carla Gugino in the cast.
The film focuses on two orphans (Alexander Ludwig, AnnSophia Robb) with paranormal abilities who, with help from a Las Vegas taxi driver (Johnson), are on the run from a sinister group (led by Hinds) looking to exploit their powers.
In a reference to the original movie, Eisenmann plays a sheriff and Richards a waitress at a roadhouse called Ray's in a town named Stony Creek.
Scott, Marquette and Brown work for Hinds's character, while Marin plays a helpful mechanic.
The film is currently in production with Andy Fickman at the helm.

As much as I loved ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, I always wondered what it would have been like had Disney made it closer to Key's novel, which is much grittier (Tony and Tia are teenagers and live at a grim orphanage where they can only see each other an hour a day, Tony has a reputation for fighting and Tia has a police record stemming from her breaking into a building to rescue a cat, Tia is mute, Lucas Deranian (there is no Aristotle Bolt character) is a younger and slick Mafia-type, and Jason O'Day is a football-player-turned-priest). The Rock would be very appropriate for the latter role, but...Las Vegas? Cab driver? Hrm...

From the trailer shown at comic-con, the movie is all about The Rock, action packed, and sci-fi. Nothing like the Witchmountain we know and love....

well I can see them using The Rock to draw in the audience espically the older crowd. I think it will be a good movie and cant wait for it come out.

I was upset when I heard the plot of the new one because I thought it sounded to far removed from the original, but the trailer cleared up any reservations I was having. I think it looks fantastic and I can't wait.

Count me in as one of the people pleasantly surprised by the trailer. I love the original film, and even though I really like Dwayne Johnson, the idea of a remake with him made me groan. Now I have to admit that this looks pretty decent and seems like it takes enough new turns to stand on its own the way the Freaky Friday remake did. Since there's so little competition in the spring, I can't see this not doing well.

Looks.... interesting. I'm not as blown away by the trailers as others have been, but I can safely say I'd like to see it out of curiousity. I'll be sure to sneak in a viewing this March in between my second and third viewings of Watchmen.
Cheers,
JM

The trailer sells itself nicely as a family-friendly action/thriller, and I look forward to watching the film. Whether it be on DVD or in theatres remains to be seen.

WOW, that does look really good. I have to watch the first two before this one comes out so I am up to date lol. I don't remember the others cause it was so long ago when I watched it.

I'm sure you can understand the story in this movie without having to "catch up" by watching the older ones.
Of course, watch the older ones anyway, they're great films.

WOW! I applaud you, Disney. This movie looks NOTHING like I expected, and I'm totally excited for it now. I am genuinely shocked by that trailer, in a good way!
