Yeah, I read that brief synopsis that TIME had printed up about... "Up" and it didn't sound all that interesting. However, I have yet to see a Pixar flop (even it's least successful "A Bugs Life" was still a great movie).

Ya know, until you mentioned it, I hadn't really noticed it either. Though you are very right, there have been many predominate female roles: Jessie, Dory, Mrs. Incredible, even Boo and Princess Atta -- but you are right, there are no female lead roles as of yet. I'm sure that will change soon.

He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of alter kocker altercations. Says Pixar: "Our hero travels the globe, fights beasts and villains and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon."
Sounds like a potentially interesting plot. At least it has adult-appeal.

i've always hated how the main guy is always a guy. but when they do get a girl they overdo her chest IE: Lara Croft. why can't they make a movie that's animated and has a woman without larger-than-life brests? and i also hate how the women are usually protrad as a bad guy wheter it's the mean wife or the villainess. and you know i always thought Elastigirl was a main character in Incredibles?

Maybe the reason is that the director's are all guys?

The problem with female leads in animated films is this. If you make her too traditional you get blasted by people for saying you're being sexist. If you make her to feminist you turn off a large portion of the audience. These are the two mistakes most film makers make across the board today. Personally I've always found it to be a strange paradox that what is supposed to equal a strong female is a manly female meaning a female who acts like a man. Am I the only one who finds the irony in what is considered to be a strong female is a female acting like a man? There has to be a way to make a strong female that celebrates feminity. Mrs. Incredible was in this vein. She celebrated motherhood and was still strong. I think Pixar has usually gotten it right but just griping that they must have an agenda because most of their leads are male is silly.

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that Pixar does have any type of male-power agenda. I would just think that if I had made 10 or 11 movies, at some point, I would have considered having a female as the main lead.

Variety.com has a reports on Up! Including the 1st picture from Up, from TIME Magazine. There's no new info, but confirming that Bob Peterson is penning the script and co-directing.

I can't wait to get a copy of the June 18 US Edition of TIME!

Interesting. That photo reminds me of Wallace & Gromit for some strange reason.

I have the feeling this film will be themed differently than the rest of the Pixar films. I'm just hoping it's better than Cars. I used to talk about how much I loved it, but I think that was just because I wanted to love it, being Disney/Pixar and all. To me, the plot was ridiculously stale and the thought of talking cars just made me think of those old Chevron commercials. :p

Anywho, I'm really looking forward to this film, and the plot hasn't even been confirmed yet! However, I am a bit upset that Toy Story 3 has been pushed back to 2010. Doesn't it seem a bit strange to release the third installment 15 years after the original was released? But, on the other hand, Cinderella III was released nearly 50 years after the original, so I take back my statement .

the UP film dosen't look like it'll be good from what the story they've released. of course people can be wrong. and it makes sense that TS3 would be released so late since it takes about four years to make a CGI film at the most/least.

One thing that stands out about this film--at least to me--is that its lead characters are human. The same was true of the Incredibles, but because Pixar has predominantly done non-human lead characters, I still find this unique. (I haven't seen Ratatouille yet which of course has rats AND humans :) )

I can't tell much from the picture as I wish I could see the characters up close.

I have a lot of faith in Pete Doctor and Bob Peterson, though. I would be really surprised if it wasn't a great film, coming from those two.

That is especially not true for movies in which the characters are already living in the computer. Look how long <i>Toy Story 2</i> took to make...a little over two years and that was with massive overhauls and a change from a 60-minute DTV to a 90-minute theatrical release. And the movie didn't exactly seem rushed to critics or moviegoers. An all-Pixar <i>Toy Story 3</i> could have been done as early as next year, but Pixar's been busily/quietly working on the other films they have lined up for release in the summers prior to 2010, which is why we must wait and wait.

Looking at the picture the airplane theory looks like it has to be scratched, thats too bad though. I think a sequal from cars about airplanes would be cool though.

Maybe Up is about looking up to someone, and getting to meet that person?

While the title's relation to the plot sort of throws me, I have to saw that the whole premise of Up intrigues me.

Now, if only we can have the central elderly character be Geri...

The word Up may be a code that will be used in the movie, because Up is going to be an adventure movie, so the old man and the wilderness boy might try to find something that the old man only knows about and he has to find the secret code first. That’s my guess at it.
