Which short?
Anyway, this new short looks remarkable, except, well...I often can't tell what's going on. I know things need to happen fast, and I'm a slow person so maybe average people wouldn't need this, but I wish some of the scenes were a little more clear. Unfortunately I wonder if the flat paper style adds to the trouble. Still, most of the thing is beautiful, and it certainly sounds beautiful. Excellent choice of music, it really fits with everything.
I didn't like how it didn't look like some things were moving. When all the deer were rushing together it didnlt look like their legs were propelling them. When we look at what the crane is holding in its mouth, it's obviously not moving in that shot. But I guessing any instances like these are just for the preview? Also, this is a really small thing but there's that scene where you see a sillhouette of a tree, and then you see more trees. I felt that was weird, like we should have scene the trees pop up one at a time instead of one and then a lot, and that one tree was so far from the other trees. The grass was also weird when we see the men on horses in it, but I'm hoping that's just because it was "preview" grass. The scene where the arrow stops the cranes from fighting with the dragon in their mouths is done badly, it's hard to tell the same bird that spun around was falling, and it just looks bad. Basically, I wish everything moved better and looked like it was moving realistically. But hey, maybe that's just my preferences, or it's just for the preview?

Don't let my problems or preferences comprimise or change your artistic visions or desires, okay?
Anyway, I thought that that was just a watercolor or colored-pencil drawing by hand you scanned. It looks so good, and so beautiful! But you're really going to use that for your short instead? Isn't that way different from what you planned?

actually i always wanted to make this style and considering now i have the means to do it...i dunno...im not really good with chinese watercolor style and although its simpler to do...and more economical..i like lush backgrounds with finer details. and i dont want it to end up looking like anorthr mulan just because its set in neighbouring mongolia.

Gorgeous still! The harmonization between the characters and the beauty of the background amaze me. I wish I had the ability to illustrate such lovely backgrounds as you do in the pictures you showed earlier. The whole look sort of reminds me of Sleeping Beauty or Pocahontas in how the design of the characters and the intricate look of the backgrounds blend so well with each other.
I can't wait to see the final short when it's completed. You had tremendous talent!

It looks beautiful, and yes it does remind me of Sleeping beauty and Pocahontas. You still didn't explain how Sleeping Beauty and Pocahontas have the same art direction...or Sleeping beauty inspired Pocahontas?

More beautiful art, by the way. I even see some purple, that's nice. These new pieces are even more Sleeping Beauty/Pocahontas reminiscent.

oh wasnt that in the sleeping beaty thread..heh u got me confused..yea..i search for a pocahontas related thread for the video but couldnt find any recent ones...thats why i post it there..and pocahontas art direction was inspired by the art of sleeping beauty.so says the making of featurettes

that's all. i hope that explains it.
regarding the hailibu backgrounds, i try to vision places that i'd love to go myself, hence i wasted time onthe details.my teacher's going to kill me.
