Seriously though, I love it, even though it's a tad on the insane side and Donald's going a little too crazy over the hot ladies who are all really really old if they are still alive by now.

I actually got that from the Wikipedia entry on Alice in Wonderland.

I agree, though. Fantasia and Alice are VERY tame when compared to TTC.

One thing I just remembered, some years ago a friend of mine pointed out something; out of all the things Disney is paying tribute to in the TTC they love the latin women they most!

I mean, Donald does nothing but chase cute latin women throughout the whole movie! And the head trip inducing scenes have to do with women!

If that isn't saying something about Latin women, nothing is! XD

Great news! I just hope they reinstate Goofy's cigar in "Saludos," and leave Jose's cigar in "Caballeros" be.

Figures. I found a copy of TTC for $6.99 yesterday and bought it. But truth be told I probably wont bother upgrading it.

It'll be nice to finally see SA though. I have NEVER even seen it in a store and no rental place near me has it either. A re-release will make it readily available

This is good news to me! Wow, those laserdiscs were crammed full of goodies!

I'll tell you, I watched at least some of these two movies for the first time in my life (I'm 39) within the last two years, and I didn't like them -- too wacky.

But, I recently finished reading Gabler's "Walt Disney" biography, and due to the author's coverage, I have a better appreciation for the animated projects. So, I had thought I'd purpose to buy these DVD titles.

With re-release news such as this, I'm more excited about the features -- and am finding it out before purchasing Gold Collection versions.

Well, the first time I watched TTC quite a few years ago I guess I could also have described it as "too wacky" - basically a waste of videotape. But I got to appreciate it a lot more soon thereafter...

Perhaps my love of The Three Caballeros stems from having seen it first as a child. I was too naive and openminded to see it as strange or wacky. I just took it all in and accepted it. To this day, I love this movie and the way it develops into a musical frenzy by the end. I think it's a classic.

Even if it's too crazy for you and you don't have a nostalgic attachment to it, I think it's worth having around as a record of all the different things that can be done in the animation medium (and pre-bluescreen special effects).

We have the combination of humans and cartoons in creative (to say the least) ways, the combination of artwork and cartoons to look like a unified piece (like the ode to Baìa and the train chugging through a Mary Blair painting), use of lots of different color palettes, typical Disney animation, zany animation, artsy animation, crazy abstract animation, etc.

In short, it's the great Disney animators in their prime going wild with their art.

I just watched this the other day. I hadn't seen it since I was about six. I thought the movie was very good. I totally see why some would say this movie is trippy. I can't wait for these to be re-released on dvd (especially since I only have Three Cabelleros on VHS).

Indeed they were! That's why we loved them so. They were really made just for movie lovers, since they were pretty expensive. They were pretty cool for their time.

Any new news on a release date?

Oh...I actually got all excited and thought there was news on the release date Oh well.

Oh, wow! Well, even if the technology was around, they didn't use it in the movie.

Which of the two films had the acacono (I think it's called that)?, it's this bird that's Woody The Woodpecker meets the Road Runner.

That's the Aracuan bird, its in Three Caballeros. That bird is hillarious!

I liked that bird too. I don't think I've ever seen the other film though.

For the record - that bird is also in the short Clown of the Jungle and in the Samba segment of Melody Time.
