Now that everyone's had a few days to sign up, anyone can sign up for as many categories as they would like (just be sure that if you sign up, you can send in your speeches).

I'm extending this deadline as well... you now have until Friday night at 11:59pm (Eastern Time) to sign up for a category and send in your speech. Remember that you can sign up for as many categories as you like - unlimited! Don't make me write speeches for all these! :P

Great! Everybody has been signed up. If anybody still wants to sign up for a speech, I'm not quite finished counting the votes yet, so you still have a little more time.

C'mon Already!!!! When do we start the Awards presentations???

I thought we were going to do this all in one day BEFORE the Academy Awards. Did something happen, or has there been a change in plans?

It's always been planned for after the Academy Awards, I'm still waiting on some people's speeches, and the Peter Pan review is going to be finished up before this proceeds. Thanks for your patience, though!

Aaron:

Another dumb question.

Why do we wait so long to get this done. You started in December, and April seems to be pretty far off. Is there not an easier and quicker way to do this? Also there could be less categories to choose from that would help. Some of the categories seem pretty redundant to me, but maybe that is just me.

We could speed things up by doing what you started, limit voting to a certain number of days, and then signing up presenters, who must have their speeches in to you within a 48 hour period, no if and no buts. Then we could get on with the awards and be done with them before April.

Has this always been the way it is done?

This year is the earliest and fastest these have ever gone forward, despite having the most categories and highest number of votes. It just takes a little time. Counting the nominations and votes takes more time than you can probably imagine. It's also important to give everyone time to come to UD, see the nominees, carefully think them over, and see any movies or whatnot that they want to consider. This year's deadlines were actually even earlier at first, but I extended them due to popular demand.

That said, we are not waiting until April to do these. The awards might even start tonight. I don't know if they'll fit into one night this year or not.

I allow more time for people to get their speeches to me because I want to (A) maximize the number of involved members and (B) minimize the amount of writing I have to do for this, as it's already so much.

As for the number of categories, I add and delete a few each time. Next year, some will be deleted, some will be combined, some special categories will become permanent, and some new ones may be added. I want to make the most representative award "show" I can, even if that means waiting a little longer. As always, some of the different categories that you vote for are combined when the actual ceremony comes along.

I hate to sound like I'm griping, but I am always balancing a lot of things. The UD Awards, while important to me, are not the top priority. Everything has finally been counted and most (though unfortunately not all) of the speeches have been sent into me. If those who haven't yet sent in their speeches could do so, I would appreciate it.
