I am glad Kim Possible is back w/ new episodes. Much better than dumb shows like American Dragon.
The reason they skipped ahead is because they wanted to air a Valentine's Day themed episode.

What's the reference? I'd really like to know. I'm guessing a popular TV show, obviously from the 80s from your clue. I can't think of anything with those characters. What is it?

Oh god, that was so easy. I can't believe that I forgot all about Moonlighting. Their names were ringing a tiny bell in my head, I can't believe I didn't guess them. I haven't ever seen the show, but I have read about the DVD releases, so I should know about. Thanks for the link and for clearing that up Cabellero Girl.
