I've never met anyone who prefers Burton's The Corpse Bride over The Nightmare Before Christmas. That's refreshing.

Shh, don't tell Disney, but I like Corpse Bride a smidge more then TNBC, too!

I've never met anyone who prefers Burton's The Corpse Bride over The Nightmare Before Christmas. That's refreshing.

Both are great but I don't know why I like/think Corpse Bride is better. More enjoyable.

I'm gonna leave out a couple of movies that were spun off from TV series, and also Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, which isn't fully animated.

Actually my favorite Disney stop-motion film is James and the Giant Peach but sadly that film has little to no following. Is it true that Tim Burton originally went to Disney to produce The Corpse Bride?

@Avaitor: I've always heard great things about Persepolis. I need to watch that one day. Also I think you have impeccable timing posting TNBC as your #1 animated film right after a series of posts that talk about preferring The Corpse Bride over it.

Ha, yeah, I saw that! I do really like Corpse Bride, but it's not even close for me. Although realizing that it's based off of a Jewish folktale which had all of its Jewish references removed does sour it from me a little, especially since Tim Burton has a history of gentilising his works. see also Miss Peregerine.

Persepolis is terrific! Maybe not the easiest watch, but unlike other films of its kind, it balances out the story's heavy themes with a lot of light touches that make it more palatable without removing its edges. I also admire how it keeps the graphic novel's visual style in tact, and stays black and white through the majority of it without losing tone.

I heard about that with The Corpse Bride and that's a shame because there's not much of Jewish culture in animated films. I wasn't aware that Tim Burton removed anything from Miss Peregrine though.

From what little I've seen online of Persepolis, it does seem to have some humor which is good to balance the film's dark themes out then like you said. Have you ever read the graphic novel?

I'm trying to find sources about that Jewish folktale cause I don't have any knowledge on it and I asked my Russian/Ukrainian friends and they don't know about it as well.

The only animated film I know is The Prince of Egypt.

I don't know anything about the origins of or making of Corpse Bride or Miss Peregrine...I had no idea. I do like TNBC and actually watch it more often than CB. I will say that the music alone gives TNBC a notch up, but just the story itself, I prefer CB just a smidge.

I forgot about that. It's kinda sad that the only Jewish representation in animated films is an ancient story where they were kept in bondage. It would be like if the only animated film with Black people was one set in a period of slavery. Then again TPATF isn't much better considering the Jim Crow era was hardly a step up.

I had heard about The Corpse Bride's origin before although I'm not familiar with the story, but I have no idea about Miss Peregrine. I do know Tim Burton was criticized for only working with a white cast in his film adaptation but considering how the story was set in the the WWII era of England, that didn't really bother me. I've only seen CB once and while I liked it, I haven't felt a need to rewatch it again since.

Shrek 2 used to be one of my absolute favorite animated films when I was younger. I loved the original as well obviously but Shrek 2 was even better! However, I was under the impression that Home on the Range was one of your absolute favs as well?

Well I remember some people used to say that if Disney ever wanted a Jewish princess, they could use the story of Queen Esther. But it's not the most family friendly story.

Yes. I know people that would have liked to see Esther as a Disney Princess.
That does reminds me of how OUAT's David is probably inspired by King David, which was persecuted by King Saul, like OUAT's David being persecuted by King George. Also his mother's name is Ruth. King David's great grandmother was Ruth, the main character of Book of Ruth.

Alan Menken composed the King David musical that Disney Theatrical staged...

I would like people to not talk bad of Tim Burton Since he is mymy Favorite Director of all timr And a personal Hero of mine

So i will ask you as nicely as Possible to please be kind to Burton
My list of all time Favorite movies is large part Burton stuff especially at the top.

I am in the minority here but i like CP more than TNBC.

Considering the quality of the show during S1, those parallels were probably intended. Definitely wouldn't have been there midway through the show though.

No one here is badmouthing Tim Burton. All that was said is the truth that Burton has a tendency to whitewash some of his films like The Corpse Bride and apparently Miss Peregrine.

I remember Helena Bonham Carter saying that about him as well though.
