I agree. I pre-ordered mine back when they first went on pre-sale. And I am sure the vendors have ordered there's also. I really hope this isn't so. I am looking forward to Donald's antics this Christmas season.

I hate the new Amazon.com price... I KNEW I should have gone ahead and ordered them. Now I'll have to pick them up at Coscto, I suppose.
But wait, May 2004? That sucks bigtime. That can't be true, if Disney does this, there will be a HUGE backlash within the classic animation community. I should know, I am part of it, and we are EAGERLY awaiting next month's releases, particularly the Front Lines set...

I just hope Disney isn't making any kind of lame "politcal correctness" changes to the
Frontlines set... I would be royally

If it was change to one set (Frontlines) I would expect Disney to drop that one set for a year and release it next year (like they reportedly did last year when only 3 sets were released).
I don't think its down to competition - while most people don't buy that many DVDs, the Limited Edition sets are aimed at collectors (who presumably buy more). Christmas is the prime period for buying discs, then the sales slack off until April or May the following year (co-incidently when the sets are now due to be released). But I still say December is the right time to release these to maximise sales.
I think it's either because the Disney DVD team missed a deadline (presumably because they were all working so hard making "the King of DVDs"

) or another theory: Disney are planning to do a nationwide release of the previous Treasures sets - not just CostCo.

Very good point! I hope you are right.

Also I hope that they not will change anything in content or so, on the Frontline Set - then I will be so disappointed with Disney that I will give up the whole business in the future.
But guys, what is it that´s going on over in Burbank?
Have you not noticed the strange thing that have happened lately.
The much expected HIDALGO suddenly was pushed from October this year to March 2004.
The same with ALAMO which should have been their big Christmas asset this year - now suddenly it´s pushed forward until April next year.
I think some serious trouble are on the way over there......

Where did this info come from? This is just too close to the release date for me to believe it. If Disney really does delay this, there will be some VERY pissed customers they are going to have to deal with...

WHAT?!
I've been anxiously and patiently awaiting these sets all year!! I've began gathering my weekly savings since last month to make sure I am able to get these on their release date! This will be so dissapointing if Disney pushes them back more than half a year... that'll mean no Treasure sets in 2003! These were going to be my only Holiday dvd purchases.
I really hope content on the Frontlines sets are not effected by this change, that will really be a huge let down!

This is definitely some sucky news, but given the weird things we've seen the last couple weeks I'm not surprised.
Remember, we saw inconsistent print runs and then changing print run numbers. I used to work for a major computer book and software publisher and we also acted as a 3rd party distribution company for smaller software companies. The closer we got to the ship date if they started to look at the initial sell-in numbers and mess with print runs it almost always meant a delay. I have to wonder if the pre-order demand is so great on this Wave that Disney has decided to go back and bump up production. Sfter all, what good is a release if they can't even fufill initial demands of their online and traditional storefront distributors?
Of course this doesn't make any of us with standing pre-orders at all happy, but that's the way things go sometimes. There is nothing we can do and even though you say you can't wait, well, you're gonna have to
I'm hoping like the rest of you that this is just a bad internet rumor but I really would not be surprised if it turns out to be true.

Luke, where'd you get this information from?
The official website still indicates a December 2nd release date:
http://disney.go.com/DisneyVideos/disne ... index.html
I have a feeling this might just be an internet rumor...

... maybe, but they are at the same time gone from the frontpage at Disneyvideos.com.
Soooooo strange all this....

Perhaps they just updated their homepage to promote new dvd releases with a more universal appeal, they're all listed in Disney's release calendar as well. Neither the official Treasures site or release calendar have changed... ??

This is very odd. I mean every year they have released these treasures now this year none!? It will screw up future releases (hopefully not) and not only that I was really looking forward to the Donald treasure and Mickey's Christmas Carol!!

Maybe people are jumping the gun here? or are assuming?

Amazon.com has not changed the release date. Neither has DVDempire. I ordered the tins from both of them. I will not cancel my orders until I"m absolutely sure they've changed the date. I hope that this news IS NOT TRUE. I'm sure Amazon & DVDempire will let their customers know if the dates been pushed back. I will wait and see.

Why would you want to cancel? I preordered mine in August from amazon and the way I see it, if Disney have put the release date back because of a high demand and are producing more units, retailers will supply customers on a first ordered first served basis (When the DVDs are eventually released). So the earlier you ordered it, the more chance there is of getting the DVD. Or I am just going on? I am English!
Well, I felt pretty poo this morning (in the UK) when I read the news. But even though I may not get the DVDs for Christmas, I'll have a bit more money to spend on other stuff. Remember - the whole world was waiting years for sets like Back to the Future and the Indiana Jones films to come out, so waiting a few months for these treasures won't be too bad. It'll also give us a chance to save up for them if we're a bit broke at the moment. Hopefully by next December when wave 4 of the treasures are due, Disney will have sorted their act out (we can but hope anyway).
One last thought. I was looking at a list of Donald Duck shorts and by my reckoning, it'll take four volumes to release them all!

Yeah, I'd not recommend cancelling pre-orders, especially if you got in when Amazon had them at 30% off. It's not like they're going to be cheaper than that, and if somehow they are, you've got 7 months to change your mind.
Guys, the info I have is that the edict came down from Disney yesterday, so naturally it's going to take some time for everybody to be in the know. It's not like this site where all it takes is for me to get a reliable lead, and poof, 3 minutes later, the release schedule is changed. There's a chain of command, and though stores should be getting information pronto (if they haven't already), it will take them time to process and Disney's website people as well. The dates are no longer on the individual Treasures pages on Disneyvideos.com A-Z Database, but that's the only change I've noticed, so far. To be expected, I suppose.

If this is true and Wave 3 will be out in May 2004, I HARDLY doubt that we will have another wave the same year.

The Front Lines set has been delayed for a year already, I don't want to wait another six months...

Just FYI, when you click through from disney.com to buy any of the new Treasure titles, the disneystore.com pages show those titles as currently not available.

It has been like that all the time I think (until something became availible through them!)
