I'm absolutely thrilled by the news on the
front page!
For those of you too lazy to check...
October 13, 2006 - Via an e-mail from Walt Disney Treasures host Leonard Maltin, "matthewgb" on the UD forum shares some information on the upcoming volume Your Host, Walt Disney. Maltin confirms that complete shows will include "The Fourth Anniversary Show", "Backstage Party", "I Captured the King of the Leprechauns", and "The 10th Anniversary Show." There will also be excerpts touching on subjects close to Walt's heart, the entire 90-minute "Kodak Presents Disneyland '59" (which was feared lost), a special film presentation made for a one-time, early '60s showing at Radio City Music Hall, never-before-seen footage of Walt shooting his TV openings, and a newly-produced tribute featuring the participation of Walt's daughter Diane plus those who worked with him such as Tommy Sands and various Mouseketeers.
I can't believe 'Backstage Party' will be released! I feared it would never see the light after it wasn't included as a bonus feature on the
Babes in Toyland DVD, which would have been the most logical place to put it, but hey this'll work!

YES!!!!! "Your Host, Walt Disney" is the treasure I'm looking forward to most. He is my hero. The list of bonus features confirmed by the amazing Leonard Maltin has me so excited for this release. I can't wait!

Notice this part of the press release: "...presented with superb picture and sound." Is this in response to last year's questionable picture quality on Donald Duck Vol. 2?
And what about this from UD's front page: "...a special film presentation made for a one-time, early '60s showing at Radio City Music Hall,..." -- could this be the same item that was to be included on Disneyland - The Secrets, Stories and Magic of the Happiest Place on Earth?:

I was thinking the same thing mouseketodd.....and then I thoguht about how we still haven't got that DVD which should have been out summer 2005
.
Anyway I'm really excited about this DVD now. I LOVE Babes in Toyland and I can't wait to see Backstage Party. Even though the Babes in Toyland DVD sucked I still bought it! (and I had the VHS)

a question - the treasures are the short little cartoons and little snippets that they had all compiled together right? So are they worth getting or do you just get them to round out your disney collection?

Yes, one of the major functions of the Treasures series is to collect together all the short films (the Mickey Mouses and Donald Ducks and so forth), and for that reason alone they are totally worth getting. They're very good - in fact, I'd rather watch a bunch of shorts instead of a Disney feature.

I remember when I was little, that we would watch some disney cartoons, I have no idea what they were or what they are called, but chances are they would be in these things.
I've been looking on Amazon.com - and they are expensive! (the ones that are oop). Silly Symphonies (the first volume) did they come in a tin, or no? actually do they all come in a tin?
i might just have to invest in a region free dvd player LOL much cheaper buying overseas then in North America!

Yes, all of the Treasures DVDs have had tins, but screw the tins it is the content that is the important thing here! These DVDs are gold!

At least in my case this (above) would be some understatement!
The Treasures are the centerpieces of my Disney DVD collection - and definitely worthy of their name - Treasures.
The prices of the WDTs while they're still "in print" are very reasonable. But they tend to go up for the OOP ones, and some have become rather expensive. A hundred dollars or so could be worth paying, though, if one appreciates the contents enough. I know I would have if I'd had to.

i said this in another treasures thread, but after looking at them, I thinking I will get Mickey in color, both donald, silly sympanies and maybe goofies and behind disney. those look like the most interesting to me right now

I can't wait to get "The Complete Pluto - Vol 2" on DVD. I have Vol. 1, but I love Pluto. He rocks!
There is also one question, On the first collection of "Silly Symphonies" in the Treasures collection, they have "The Three Little Pigs", "The Big Bad Wolf" and "Three Little Wolves". There is one missing in the Walt Disney Treasures set, that one is called "The Practical Pig". It should be on "More Silly Symphonies" collection. "Practical Pig" was the final chapter in the "Three Little Pigs" saga. But the main title card was "The Three Little Pigs", but it was considered to be shown as a "Silly Symphony", and it was the only cartoon that does not have a "Silly Symphony" name. I hope that the final "Three Little Pigs" short will be on the Walt Disney Treasures "More Silly Symphonies" soon.

As far as I understand, the two Silly Symphony volumes together are indeed supposed to cover all 75 - including all of the Pigs sequels.

"The Practical Pig" is on the Silly Symphonies Treasure set, but as an easter egg. It is on disc one. Go to "Captions". Highlight the baby to the left of the word "None". Hit the "Enter" remote button.
"Who Killed Cock Robin?", "Water Babies", and "Farmyard Symphony" are the other shorts on this first Silly Symphonies Treasure set that were included only as easter eggs. "Wynken, Blynken and Nod", "The Old Mill", and "The Grasshopper and the Ants" are also easter eggs, but they're part of the regular menu shorts, also.

Oh, they ended up doing a lot of "fun" with the menus on that set... Fortunately, it's all quite easy to figure out. I made my own menu insert. I even think there's one short that is visible on the menu, but is not included in the "play all" option...

So when are they (Disney) going to release the contents of Pluto, Vol.2?
I keep checking Amazon but nothing yet.

P.S. When do they normally release the initial info on these Treasure sets?
Looking for what's in Wave 7. Sure hope Chronological Donald Vol. 3 (and a long shot), Vol. 4 are in it.

Well, quite obviously, the rest of the Pluto shorts would have to be included. Then I guess we should also expect quite a few more Mickey Mouse shorts with Pluto appearances.
