Man, I would love to see a special edition release of Oliver and Company! It's one of my favorites. I'm hoping maybe in 2008 as a 20th Anniversary Edition.

Sorry, looks like I skimmed a little, but my opinion is still the same.

As for Oliver, I loved the original musical, so a 2-disc release of that would be just fine by me as well.

I know it just should get a 40th anniversary edition, if the Sound of Music did this should and if it doesn't I will get my gang of pickpockets and march down to Sony Pictures/Fox or whoever does it

Columbia Pictures (now owned by Sony) produced the film and has the distribution rights.

The current DVD is downright disgraceful. While it's great to have the movie in anamorphic widescreen, it's inexcusable to give so little to a film that apparently meant so much in 1968. The short featurette is laughable, the photo gallery is okay, and I can't remember if there are even trailers on this disc.

What I really hated was that the original disc was released in 1999, at an SRP of $27.99. Then, rather than simply reduce that SRP later on, they re-released the same disc with UGLY cover art, and the soundtrack CD as a bundle set for $19.99. I much prefer the old disc cover, but that one still hasn't been marked down anywhere I've seen, and I don't want to buy the ugly cover version just because it's cheaper.

I've noticed this in quite a few of your Ultimate DVDs, yamiiguy. While it's understandable for some (offering The Lion King in both 1.66:1 and the theatrical 1.85:1), I don't quite understand the need anymore to bother with a 1.33:1 transfer for any film made after widescreen became the norm, and in this case, four whole different aspect ratios for the film.

1.33:1 (or more accurately, 1.37:1) is the Academy Ratio, or fullscreen ratio. It's the one used on standard televisions and in the pan & scan process of widescreen films. Most films have been shot in this ratio since the moving picture was invented (some films used a 1.20:1 ratio), and it wasn't until 1952 that widescreen began getting popular (with the three-camera Cinerama pictures at 2.75:1), and by the late 50s/early 60s, widescreen had become the norm for any theatrical films.

Television shows have always been filmed in 1.33:1 as well, though since the early 90s (with ER being one of the first), several shows are now filmed in widescreen (usually a smaller ratio), and broadcasters choose to air one or the other.

In some cases, films will have dual ratios:

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: CinemaScope 2.55:1 Aspect Ratio
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: Flat Widescreen 1.77:1 Aspect Ratio
-With Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, it was filmed with both CinemaScope and flat widescreen so that theatres could pick which version to show. Not all theatres were widescreen equipped in 1954, so having an alternate filming would benefit them and allow them to show the film. Of course, when the anamorphic lens was developed to be added to any projectors, that concern was pretty much gone.

Oklahoma: CinemaScope 2.55:1 Aspect Ratio
Okalahoma: Todd-AO 2.20:1 Aspect Ratio
-Oklahoma was shot in both 35mm CinemaScope and 70mm Todd-AO. 70mm yielded better picture quality, and was usually reserved for roadshow engagements. 35mm was the standard film quality, and thanks to the anamorphic lens, was cheaper to use. Ironically on the DVD, the 70mm Todd-AO version is not restored at all and is soft and faded, while the restored 35mm looks better than ever.

-Like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, when Lady and the Tramp was in production, they made two versions, and Academy and a CinemaScope version. I don't have comparison caps because I need to borrow Kram's Limited Issue DVD, in order to provide all 4 versions (Academy Ratio - Redrawn, Academy Ratio - Pan & Scan of CinemaScope, CinemaScope 2.35:1, and CinemaScope 2.55:1)

A Bug's Life: CinemaScope 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio
A Bug's Life: Academy 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio
-Since A Bug's Life came from a digital source, the filmmakers could alter the film as they wished for a fullscreen transfer, and did it several ways. The first was a Restage, where they moved the characters around to fit into the now smaller frame. The second, Frame Height, simply extended the frame on the top and bottom. The third, Crop, focused on one specific area. The fourth, Scan, part of Pan & Scan, moved the visibility back and forth across the screen to always get the action.
