Why does High School Musical get a 2-Disc treatment while Pixar's Cars, Chicken Little, Fox and the Hound and Robin Hood get only single disc treatment?
Probably get High School Musical 2 Disc treatment along with both Cheetah Girls films and hope they don't get 2 Disc SE treatment.

Why are they releasing it people ask? Well what holiday is in December?
I can hear it now all around the country:
"Daddy! Daddy! I MUST have the 2 Disc High School Musical Daddy! I know I have the 1 disc but it's just not cool to have that lame edition anymore! Everyone's getting the Remix edition for Christmas! Oh and get two copies! I'm not sharing with Kaitlin!"

Oh no, it's going to be like Tamogochi's and Giga Pets again! AHHH!! Btw, they brought Giga Pets or something like it back to the consumer market. Egads, I don't like these childhood product trends trends.
"All the cool kids are getting it!"
Though ppl are right. Why is this getting a 2-disc all of a sudden and movies that actually SHOULD be rereleased are not even mentioned? Corporate America sucks. We should all be Amish.

and it's not as if we could all stay away from this too long. Admit it! complaining about disney is almost as fun as loving disney. if we didn't like it we wouldn't be on this website!
and to go further with that... i watched this movie again today and i still don't like it!

I would love if the DVD has B5's music video on it.
Then I MAY look into the movie.

i keep hoping that it's really the best disney film of all time and that i just havn't realized it yet. that way i could justify the attention it keeps getting, but alas it eludes me still...

If it were the best Disney film of all time, it would have to be:
1. In theaters and not relegated to the shell that was once The Disney Channel
2. Done with TALENTED actors
3. Rewritten into a more believable story
4. With even more believable characters
5. And allow Ryan and Sharpay a chance to truly shine and be the good guys as they're the only ones in the film worth rooting for.
HSM is a movie that one viewing is enough for someone to determine whether or not they actually like it. Not multiple times hoping something will change and they'll "realize" it's not as bad as everyone says it is.

well, the saddest part about all this is that it's being turned into a live stage version. Being a theater major i can only assume that i'm going to be dealing with it forever! Because let's face it, it's a G-rated Grease. Every high school wants to do grease but sometimes are held back by how adult it really is. HSM is sadly going to be a hit. and whats even worse is that the children who are buying it today will somedady consider it a classic! and then i'll just kill myself!
i guess my all in all resolution is that as long as it makes people happy...

I'm a theater major myself. Your humor totally struck me. I like it.
And
HappyPug, I enjoy your humor as well. You know what you do... And your pug avatar always aids in the hilarity.
My actual comments on this? When
High School Musical's DVD sales broke records, Disney new they just had to create a double dipper. But they didn't realize that the popularity was a sugar rush, which is slowly disappearing. I haven't heard much about
High School Musical recently, so I'm assuming it's become so 5 minutes ago. Maybe the sequel will give it another burst of energy.
However, if Disney does something like show the actual musical they perform on stage as a deleted scene or bonus feature, this may be of some signifigant worth to fans.

Ugh, no widescreen version!? No double dip from me then that's the one thing that would've gotten me to pass off my current DVD to my little cousin and buy the remix edition. Very dissapointing!

One thing I will say about High School Musical: it gave me a respect for Grease that I never had before.

Random question - does anyone know if this is coming in a slipcase? The picture doesn't really show a sideview so you can't tell. I am one of those crazy people in love with slipcases.

Quick little update:
-Yes, there's a slipcover (tree-killing dvd condom fanatics rejoice).
-The new materials (3 featurettes and 3 music videos) has a complete runtime of...35 minutes.
I'll let the review speak for itself, just sent it to the Lukester and it should be up in a few days at the most.

I would have bought this edition if it was widescreen. Is it so hard as to include both widescreen and fullscreen versions of the movie?
Believe me, there IS a widescreen version. Disney Channel showed a special viewing of the Cheetah Girls with spanish subtitles, and it was shown in widescreen. If the director filmed widescreen for CG2, there should be a widescreen version of High School Musical as well.
