I am 25 so as a general rule I don't really like the stuff on the Disney Channel. I think the shows are generally stupid. I didn't think I would like High School Musical because I figured it would be similar to the regular television shows. I decided it would be worth watching because of all the type so I got my wife to check this film out from the local library. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised by this film. In fact, I thought it was very good and I think it is a shame they didn't put this in the theatre instead of on television. It isn't that I am that impressed with the acting. In addition, I don't really care for the style of music either (some of the songs are better than others). I think the story was quite good but what I really liked about this film was its philosophy. I really liked the point the film was trying to make. (And it doesn't only apply to teenagers!) Some of you are disappointed the film didn't include the musical itself. I think you are missing the fact that the movie really isn't about a musical at all. Including the musical would have detracted from the whole point of the film. This film was about an idea, a philosophy. Once that philosophy was made clear, the misssion was accomplished. There is nothing worse than a long ending after the climax has been reached.

As far as sequels are concerned, I don't think a sequel is necessary. I think it is nearly impossible to have a satisfying sequel to this film. What made High School Musical great is its idea. I think that is the reason it has had so much success. I think people find this film warm. If they made a sequel it would simply be plot driven and it would consequently lose its appeal. If they simply re-emphasize the same philosophy then it will feel like a pointless retread.

I'm glad to hear that the sequel isn't just going to be the production of the muscial itself.

For one thing, we've heard some of the songs from the musical itself in the auditions (i.e. "Always There Beside Me", and "Breakin' Free", etc.) all of which were treated to excellent production numbers. To watch these again in a different format would have been complete regurgitation. Yes they are good songs, but they've already been done well. Let's get something new.

I also think that this new storyline has potential. The first movie didn't have that serious/complicated of a plot, and I think that everyone is going to have fun with this second one too. It can be trendy and breezy and make everyone want to go "back to the beach".

I'm pretty interested to get more of the Ryan and Sharpay stuff too, which is why I think the whole Country Club thing from Sharpay's granddad is awesome! I just hope they get good casting for him.

The true test will be when we actually get to see the production, but for one I am excited that we will be taken out of the school and away from the now-non-cliquish school (which no longer has any conflict because "everybody learned something") and put in a new and exciting environment with all the potential one needs for a summer TV Movie! You go Kenny Ortega!!!

But they wouldn't have to show the whole musical. They could have shown some quick scenes from the show, and maybe faded parts of the songs in and out. Also, they could have created one more song for the finale of that musical, shown after a montage of other scenes from the show. This could have been done right at the end, or even been done during the credits. In fact, think about what a cool bonus feature the DVD would have had if they showed extended footage from the actual musical! They still wouldn't show the whole thing, just some of it, and the viewers would at least have an idea of what it was about.

But I actually think the reason they didn't show viewers the musical was because Disney didn't come up with one, just the songs for it, and they didn't plan on anyone caring that much to make up an actual musical. But now it's become a big hit, and they're having the kids do a musical version of A Midsummer's Night's Dream for the sequel.

I am actually really excited about this sequal coming out. The plot sounds exciting and it would be good to see these characters come back.

When i first saw High school musical I fell in love with it. Now I am smart enough to know that the quality of the movie apperance wise is not the greatest, but I mean I love a lot of movies like that. Where graphics and junk like that are not that great, but I mean thats not why I watch movies. I watch them because of the message they convey. And High school musical was to me one of those movies. Maybe its because I am still pretty fresh out of high school and did participate in many musicals there. So although the movie is very fictional a lot of the aspects are true. The horrible cliques . The idea of branching out of your comfort zone and doing something new and then having half the school down your back or in your bussines. I think thats the whole idea of movie high school musical. For kids or anyone to learn to do different things and that kids act the same everywhere. To me the movie tittle was fitting high school musical because even though we never saw the production. The whole moive revolved around this them or idea of the musical. And all the politics in getting there. Okay so there is my rant. :)
