Just finished reading "Chasing Vermeer" by Blue Balliett. It's a fascinating story filled with thrills and mysteries. I just love mystery books...my sleuthing skills are not bad, and I've learned all of them from reading books. :D

At school today, we, my fellow classmates and I, got a book called The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Everyone who is in the intensive class, which isn't me, said that it was a really bad book. They said that a guy finds a pearl, turns evil, and throws the pearl back in the ocean. IMO, I find that highly boring. Has anyone else here read The Pearl?

One of the worst books I've read, so bad I've pushed it out of my mind! I haven't heard of anyone who likes it.

Reading A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick at the moment. Quite different to some of his other stuff, although it is much later in his career.

I just finished reading Superman Returns, all I can say is WOW. If the movie is half as good as the book then I will be very happy. I think everyone should read this before seeing the movie and it is a pretty quick read.

I am now reading X-Men - Watchers on the Walls

I read this book called The Insiders last Saturday. It's one of those teen books about these 5 friends in New York. It was pretty good, not good enough to be one of my favorites but good enough for me to want to read the next in the series.

Lol, that's what I thought. I was reading the beginning of the thread and you said you were reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I was about to tell you to

Anyhow, all this talk about Farewell to Manzanar reminds me of The Catcher in the Rye. We read this junior year and everyone seemed to LOVE IT TO PIECES except me and a few others. I thought it was a good book, but I didn't like it much. It's like Titanic...a terrific movie in terms of production and all that, but I ultimately didn't like it. Probably b/c I'm still bitter about the end :P. Hey I watch Disney movies, why shouldn't I be!?

Whoa, off topic! Anyhow I just finished reading Gregory Maguire's Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and I must say it was a terrific story. It was hard to really get into with all the historical tidbits and Danish names confusing me, but it was a great take on the Cinderella tale. The ending was terrific, especially the epilogue! It took me nearly a year to finish it because school got in the way a lot. Right now I'm reading another of his books Mirror Mirror, which is his take on the Snow White story. It's pretty good so far. I just started it last night, I can't wait to read it again. There's some language and PG-13/R rated situations and stuff, but after college, it doesn't shock me as much.a

Let's see --

Currently, I'm gliding through Lauren Weisberger's The Devil Wears Prada.

During the Summer, I have to read "portions" of Thomas L. Friedman's The World Is Flat & Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond for next year's European History Advanced Placement course.

I love all of Gregory Maguire's novels! If you haven't, you must read Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West -- my personal favorite.

Good book, and notice all the changes that they did in the movie, they also used parts of this book in The Lost World
