the only Disney movie I can remember being scared by was The Little Mermaid... but not by Ursula, lol.. the scene where Triton would go to Ariel's grotto and destroy all her treasures. I would always cover my eyes when that part came. which is kind of ironic now, becuase thats my favorite movie ever.

The scene in The Hunchback of Notre Dame in which Quasimodo gets tied up and pelted with vegetables by the townspeople really scared me when I first watched it as a little kid circa 1997. It was the only scene in the whole film that I remembered until I watched it for the second time in 2004. I had expected my childish impressionability to have worn off by then, but I found the scene just as moving and powerful as I had on the first viewing.

I totally agree. Pinocchio scared the crap out of me and I still have a hard time watching it.

That part is good. But I was 19 the first time I watched it. Things that happen on a screen don't scare me and it has been a looong time since anything did.

I would cry. That scene in "Mermaid" always got to me -- especially when Triton turns around and spies the statue of Eric then causing Ariel to scream "Daddy...no!"



Anywhoo, the Disney film that scared me the most was the 'Pink Elephants on Parade' sequence in "Dumbo".

First time trying to quote something so hopefully it works right.

This one definately scared me when I was much younger. The scene where the horsemen throws the flaming pumpkin followed by the disappearance of Ichabod was quite impressionable.

I'd say Sleeping Beauty since Maleficent was pure evil....none of the Disney villans these days have that type of raw character.

That's because they don't want to scare us. Or maybe you humans don't get as scared as you used to.

1)Maleficent and her green eyes in the fireplace and Maleficent as a dragon.
2)When Ursula turns herself into a giant....and that voice! Too much base! She sounds like a berserker travesty!
3)Jafar as a snake!
4)The Beast's first apearance
5) Every scene with the Queen from SnowWhite
6)Frollo along with the red-caped demons when he signs "Hellfire". The night I saw it in the cinema I wasn't able to sleep alone in my bed, and I called my dad to come and sit with me...
7)Night in the Bald Mountain...THE HORROR!!!

P.S.Okay, all these things happened 10 years ago when I was a kid. I mention it, just in case!

As what I've observed...the older Disney Classics are frightening than the newer ones. It makes sense...newer Disney Classics has more jokes and gags and the villains are less scary compared to the older ones.

The odd music during this scene just gives me the creeps.

the part in hocus pocus when theyre looking for danny and they look under the covers and sarah pops up and says trick or treat i jumped cause i wasnt expecting it lol

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow did. The part where he is at the party and it shows the ghost (who was supposed to be like Vincent Price) and then after Ichabod starts laughing at himself for being so scared and then you hear the Horseman's evil laugh- that always creeped me out. also on the classic short "Trick Or Treat", when they are singing the song and the pumpkin says "boo" right up close- that scared me as a kid too.

The only Disney movie that still effectivly scares me to this day is The Great Mouse Detective. From the beginning to the end, though it has become my favorite Disney movie, I still freak out all the way.

Ironicly, I am a horror movie reviewer, and I'm not easily scared, but TGMD still gets to me everytime, probably because I still remember how terrified I was when I was little.

off the top of my head:

sleeping beauty- malificent
sword in the stone- madame mimm. magnificent marvelous mad and terrifying
fantasia- Night on Bald Mountain sequence. Nightmares for years. always sure he would turn up at my window arms/wings spread.

The battle on Big Ben is particularly intense, especially the part where Ratigan corners Basil and out of the blue whips out his Lady Deathstryke-style claws...that kinda freaked me out, since for most of the movie Ratigan lets others do his violent dirty work and stays on the sidelines being maniacal

Oh, and I must confess: Night on Bald Mountain has NEVER scared me. Perhaps it's just because I never have been too freaked out about ghosts and such, and also since Chernobog never really hurts anyone, just tortured souls . The Rite of Spring part freaked me out a LOT more, and I was very sad when the dinosaurs went extinct

That scene didn't scare me, but it made me pretty angry. I thought Triton was such a jerk.

Sleeping Beauty!

I hope someone will come along and find they've had the same experience. This movie is Disney's most creepy film. And seriously, it's probably the reason I'm so obsessed with horror to this day - the only films to ever give me that creepy feeling like Sleeping Beauty gave me. I remember that scene where the yawning Kings are talking to each other as the 3 good fairies are putting everyone to sleep, for some reason that is the sequence that gets me the most on edge for all the scenes after it. But that scene where Briar Rose / Aurora is left alone and she hears the call from inside the castle fireplace slowly... I'm not sure how much of what was happening was cut off / what we weren't seeing, but those pan & scanners were able to maximize that fear of the unknown for me. I saw a picture of the widescreen part of the movie where Aurora reaches out to touch the spining wheel needle and that made me think Maleficent was in the shot - so now I'm glad I didn't see that. Because it's much creepier when we don't know what to expect.

Of course the part that terrified me to almost screaming out loud (God only knows how young I was when I saw this for the first time alone) was the part where Maleficent is telling Phillip the story and right after image of Aurora on the bed fades out ("in ageless sleep, she finds... ((something, I don't remember what))") and that huge shot of her filling the screen comes out of nowhere and we finally see her eyes in that too-close closeup - that has fueled my imagination for life. There is just something about the way Disney animated their villains that made them so terrifying that they were pure evil. Every move was unforgettable, every inch of film they inhabited has it's own personality. Maleficent was as scary as they got. But the whole film just had this feel to it of the enchanted, but more than that it was such a strong film and a strong score that the music aided in a lot of what made those scary images resonate. I always got the feeling the whole film was haunted and the characters couldn't go too far out into the forest or the castles alone.
