Ok thank you, do you know who restored this film? I just thought it was sort of Anime looking.

Not sure. It was a German production company. Germany released a restored TLU in widescreen to DVD several years ago. Lion's Gate is getting that copy of the movie to make the Region 1 DVDs for the USA.

I really looking foward to this film, I've never seen it but have heard of it before. Hope the restoration is a good one too.

I have the German DVD, it is a good restoration. If you look at the thread where I posted my music videos, you will find many videos I made of the movie you can watch to see what you think. However, all of them have spoilers except Unicorn Theme and Requiem for a Dream

Can you link the thread? Please. Have you seen this movie in vhs? If so, how can you compare the dvd to the vhs? Are the colors accurate? Sorry I ask, it's just I don't want to purchase something that I'll regret later.

No problem with the questions.

None of the VHS are widescreen. The German DVD was the first time I saw it so. And I do enjoy the widescreen version better.

The color and sound are deffinetly better in the DVD. The colors seem more natural for the characters. And the sound isn't so scratchy and edgy as it was in the VHS transfers.

Though I don't have a side by side comparrison when it comes to VHS, these pictures show you the vivid colors in widescreen

The colors do look very natural, the restoration doesn't make the backgrounds look exaggeratedly bright. This film looks as if it was set in good hands for it's restoration. What I like most judging from the screencaps, is that it still looks like an 80's film. Although I could be wrong. By the way thanks for the links Siren.

Cool! i'm definitely selling my old bareboned DVD for this new one, i love this movie! one of my childhood movies, then years later when i rewatched it as a teen i loved it again and i started to develop a crush on Lady Amalthea.

Siren I saw The Last Unicorn dvd at bestbuy today, I think it was fullscreen though. By the way what's the films Original Aspect Ratio? I was gonna get it since it was only $9.99, but then I thought of the "Special Edition" and decided to wait fot that instead.

It was deffinetly the full screen you saw. The one with the craptacular cover. I don't know the aspect ratio. And if I were you, I'd wait till the special edition. But Blockbuster usually rents out the fullscreen edition.

Bloo! I just bought the regular version of TLU from Best Buy a few weeks ago...I must learn to be patient!

I'm hoping for a special edition of A Walk to Remember. It's in that sucky case with no extras....

I already bought the DVD about a year ago, boo! But I'll probably pick up this one as well. It's a great movie, kinda scared me a little as a kid.... the DVD cover looks nice!

I have not seen this movie since I was really young, but I want to buy it and the signed one is really cool...I will more than likely be getting this

i downloaded the german version 5 years ago.the restoration is beautiful!!! im so shocked to read the news on animated-news.com. it was so unexpected!! im more anticipating this than peter pan for a dvd. i hope the last unicorn will outsell cindy3.

I bought this today. Although hardly a "Special Edition," the transfer is absolutely beautiful. This was actually my first viewing of the movie, but it's absolutely wonderful.

I just kinda wanna bring this back up....for anyone who maybe is still interested, and as posted when this was originally made, you can order a signed copy for 25.00 which I think is more then worth it considering what a great movie this is. I just ordered my copy. Ive been meaning to for quite some time but was waiting till I had the money and I just realized, Hey, I have the money lol...here is the email I received after I ordered...check it out

Peter has fought for three years to get his due, so far without success.
He still isn't getting any royalties from the DVD you just bought, either (not as long as Granada keeps stonewalling).
However, the people at Lionsgate Entertainment (the film's American distributor) are great folks. To make it possible for American fans of THE LAST UNICORN to finally own a GOOD version, they are putting out this special digitally-remastered 25th Anniversary Widescreen DVD. And to help Peter, they have agreed to let us sell copies via the Conlan Press website. By purchasing here you have put money straight into Peter's pocket and helped him in his quest for justice.

Yesterday, I was at Target and was browsing the dvd section. I saw The Last Unicorn dvd, I had no intention of purchasing it ( since i am broke). I told my sister about it and she said if I wanted it. I said ok. The movie was ok, the characters facial expressions were awful. I don't know, something about the dialogue seemed funny and unatural to me. I don't want to say the transfer was terrible, but it wasn't spectacular. There was a lot of dust throughout the whole movie. I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but when the unicorn embarks to her journey her skin has some weird yellowish pixels while she's running.

My favorite character was the lady that travels with the magician and the unicorn. She has more personality than all the other characters combined (which makes her memorable). I thought it was funny when the evil bird kills Angela Lansbury's character. The movie wasn't what I expected.

I hope that in the future they can actually "remaster" the film. I think it has great potential to look amazing if properly remastered. There are so many films out there that are greatly neglected and never get remastered ( which sucks!); atleast The Last Unicorn managed to get a partial fix up.

I do agree that there's quite a bit of dirt and dust on the transfer, but apparently, compared to the previous DVD, it's a huge leap in quality.
