I just got back from seeing Ice Age 2, and I was eagerly anticipating the trailer. It was fun because I was the only one in my family knowing what to expect. There was a good buzz among the audience after that preview. I also liked the Mr. Burns "Excellent" at the very end of it.

Im not sure if this movie will really be bad or not.

The simpsons hasnt been as good for the last few years but its still not a bad show. Even watching the new episodes i still get at least a few laughs out of it. The Simpsons are still my favorite show on TV.

But the only few movies i have seen the last few years based on a cartoon series are

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie
The Family Guy Movie
The South Park Movie

The Spongebob movie in my opinion was alright...i got a few laughs out of it but it could have been so much better. It was missing what made the show so great.

The Family Guy Movie I thoght was bad...it just felt like 3 bad episodes put together.

The South Park movie was good but I still liked the show better.

I think that the Simpsons will be good though. All the writters were there and even that teaser i just saw made me laugh. Im sure we will find out what the story is about in a few months.

I think thats great though how they made that teaser and no one knew about it tll yesterday. It was a great surprise

Um............... It was. I was just a 3 parter with stuff that won't be on TV in the start, end, and a tad in the middle.

Girlfriend said she wants to see Ice Age, since we haven't actually gone to the theater in quite awhile.

The other day, I told my friends that I didn't want to see Ice Age 2, because I thought the first one wasn't that great.

However, I now have two reasons to see it.

Not many animated shows make movies because they aren't popular for ever and if they make a movie it might hurt the rates.

My personal opinion is that The Simpson's have outlasted their welcome and it is time to let them just go away. The past couple of years have been the weakest of what was once one of the best animated shows on television.

How come the trailer says July 27, 2007 but the title of the thread states June? Unless I missed something?

I'm undecided on whether I want to see this. I probably will, but the Simpsons seem to have run out of jokes lately.

Ahhhh, I can't wait another year, I want to watch The Simpsons movie RIGHT NOW!!!

Meh, in the mean time I'll jut watch the episodes that I have on DVD, that'll cheer me up.

They had the teaser during the show last night too.

All i said was "Nice!..." and hubby said "About time!"

We'll DEF go see this one in the theaters.

I actually agree with DVDJunkie.

The past few years of the show have been dire, as once more American business demands more and more "product" of a popular show as it's quality gradually goes down the tubes. The concept of "going out on a high" doesn't seem to apply to US TV at all.

Also, I wonder how the Simpsons format will translate to a 70-90 minute movie. It's so fast and filled with references etc. that it seriously runs the risk of being overpowering and tiring to watch.

That's the main problem with making films based on the Loony Tunes characters (which has yet to be solved). They work fine in short doses, but how can you capture and substain the anarchy and energy of the characters/format over an extended period of time?

Finally, the show itself has done so many stories and spoofs, what can they do of such monumental importance that it requires a movie to tell the story?

Combined with my first point, I see this as nothing more than Fox wanting to wring the blood out of the stone of the Simpsons.

Hey Fox, here's an idea. Make more Futurama which actually was still improving in quality when you shitcanned it, and then commission Goering to develop A WHOLE NEW SHOW as well. I know, new concepts can be scary, but somebody has to do them!

Wow, I agree with junkie too! Is this...The Scary Door? I mean, The Twilight Zone?

Even the most generous of fans would say that the last 7 years or so have not been up to the quality of the previous seasons of the show. I know a few hardcore fans who say that anything beyond season 5 is crud. (With Seasons 3 through 5 easily being the Golden Years).

I think that Netty capped it with the American network desire to have "more" of a good thing. Most British shows only run a few seasons at best, and even then only 6 to 8 episodes per season. However, the problem with The Simpsons is that it has never properly 'jumped the shark', but it has made a steady decline downhill. At some point, the loving family side to the stories that balanced the random bold wackiness got forgotten in favour of 'Homer is stupid and mean' jokes and obvious set-ups.

I also wonder how it will work over a feature format. With the right story, it could easily work - but is it needed? Probably not. Will I see it? About 50 million times.

I think the junkie was a little hard saying the Simpsons have overstayed its welcome but the show has been in decline since Season 4. (Just think Clinton was just coming into the White House during the season. I think the Itchy & Scratchy movie was shown on the 1992 election night if memory serves me right.)

However since the first Bush Jr. administration, the show has entered it institutional stage and is comparable to the Looney Tunes from 1959 - 1964. Fine entertainment but rarely excellent. I have kinda hoped for the show to end but:
1) There are no name actors to properly call it quits. (ex. Ted Danson or Jerry Seinfeld.)
2) Still pulls decent ratings on the network Bart built.

However, I should not be excited by the movie because:
1) As Bart retorted on the length of the story in The Tell Tale Head "It is about 23 minutes and 5 seconds." The Simpsons are perfect for that length not a feature length.
2) What is up with live action? I am sure there has ever been a cartoon translated successfully to live action.

However, because I am such a fan, I will quote Homer Simpson chasing the flying pig in Lisa the Vegetarian "It's still good!"

The first Flintstones movie wasn't too bad. That's the only one I really don't mind watching.

I have to say that as a die hard Simpsons fan, that it's sad to see that people poo-poo the last few years, but I can see why, and equally agree with it to a much milder extent. I think that around Season 10 or 11 of the show, as Matt Groening (not Goering, Netty ) went off to do Futurama, he had less influence on The Simpsons, and he didn't get the final say as much as he did previously, which had generally helped the show stay on course up until the point. Because of this (and possibly other things), I think that the then executive producer (Mike Scully, who is really hated in online Simpsons circles, so that makes me feel sorry for him a bit) went a bit off course with really wacky and sometimes stupid stories. Then Scully left, Al Jean (one of the EPs in Season 4 and 3) became the new executive producer and as Futurama unfortunately ended, Groening came back to the show. I honestly think that The Simpsons has kind of done a bit of a U turn in a way, making a slight decline with Season 11 being somewhat questionable in places, but then starting to look better. In some ways, it may not be quite up to the quality it was from Seasons 1-8 (with Season 4 and 7 being stand outs for me), but there's still a bit to appreciate, and in my opinion, is on the up.

And even for those who don't like the recent seasons of The Simpsons, it may interest you to know that the writers on board are some of the ones who wrote the classic episodes, so that may make your outlook a bit better. And either way, I would have been excited for the film.

The Simpsons will never be seen in a full live action film or even an episode. I hear that Matt Groening opposes that kind of thing, so don't expect Dakota Fanning to be playing Lisa.
