While some recent dvds have had cool art that I really like, Cinderella and Sky High just off the top of my head, what does it really matter what quality the art on the disc is like ? You take the disc out of the case, put it in the player then, after the movie is over, you take it out and put it back in the box. I don't think it's exactly normal to sit there and stare at the top of a dvd, is it ? I certainly don't.

All the DVDs I own are the full color kind. I wonder why the switch? For budget maybe? Is Disney the only company doing this?

To sum up the whole thread:
1. Switch was made because it was another foil for bootleggers and because it was cheaper. I personally like the new look. It's not as polished as solid disc art, but it's got a nice...glowing look to it.
2. Disney's not the only company doing this. WB has recently started to not use disc art on many of their catalogue releases (I've read that some films like Cimarron, The Good Earth, Lust for Life, etc.) don't have disc art at all.
