besides dvd collectors and freaks like us, I don't see many people going after a new format so quickly. Blue Ray or HD will be a tougher sell to the general audience. The difference in quality between dvd and vhs was huge. The same cannot be said for dvd and a new high definition format. I don't see dvd's dissappearing very quickly.

On the other hand, the transition could also turn out to be very easy - if "new-standard" players drop to a reasonable price level fast. After a year or two, all new players could conform to the new standard - and they will be able to play our old discs (I'm pretty sure...).

But are you sure it will be in blu-ray and not on HD-DVD?
Disney at this time is only supporting blu-ray. However I'm sure if HD-DVD really takes off compared to blu-ray then disney may begin supporting it too.

I dunno if I trust the Sleeping Beauty Plantinum Edition to be better than the Special Edition already in existence. When I think back to films such as the Toy Story films, The Emperor's New Groove and Tarzan...all of whom started out as "somewhat" special edition releases and released again as "another somewhat" special edition only to have fewer bonus features than before...I dunno I'm very concerned that the same thing will happen with the Sleeping Beauty Plantium Edition. It's a difficult decision as to whether or not I should wait for the PE or buy the SE now and play it safe.

I'm happy with my special edition SB DVD, if the platinum edition is exactly the same, then i'll pass it by. Unless there is something I want from the PE DVD, I don't see the point in double dipping.
