Well, it's not that bad - I noticed that the majority of people in this thread got it right. But the rest of you Disney fans: Catch up!
"Dalmatian" is not another word ending with "-tion", such as "station", "situation", "pollution" and so on. It has to do with Dalmatia - a district in Croatia (I think...) in former Yugoslavia.
So it should not be spelt "Dalmation", just like "American" should not be "Americon".

I'm surprised that "101 Dalmatians" goes first instead of "The Jungle Book". In fact, I love "The Jungle Book". It was actually the funniest film ever created from Disney after his death. I mean, the plot is a bit misleading but its hillarious. I dislike the Jungle Book 2, though. Too much DTV-ish, even if its made it to theatres.
As for "101 Dalmatians", I haven't seen this film for 7 years. I think I may have to watch it again. I mean, I didn't dislike the film but as a child I find it pretty cute! However, there's an episode of the Simpsons where Santa's Little Helper and his girlfriend had 25 puppies and Mr. Burns plays a similar role as Cruella de Ville, but he wants the puppies for a reason.
I'm glad that "Song of the South" is going to be released. This is great news!

Is Song of the South the movie with the song "Zip-pah-dee-doo-dah"? (sp?)

magicalwands, your right the song "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" is from Song of the South.

for those who want a Dumbo release, I think the release list on this site says a special edition is going to be released in June of this year.
I have
never seen The Jungle Book.
I wish they'd release 3 Platinums a year. One Spring, One summer and one in the fall. They would make more money.

Its hard waiting from February or March to October. And even though Little mermaid is not my favorite disney princess movie (Sleeping Beauty is) I'll probably buy it for continuity's sake. (I did that with Aladdin.)

I hear you there! i would love 3 platinums a year, but that wont happen unless some major reconfiguring goes on... The Jungle Book is a great film, and to comment on someone earlier... Wasn't the Jungle Book the last film Disney worked on? i think they said that it was the first after his death, but it was only released after it's death i though.

By the time of Walt's death The Jungle Book was well under way, so he had time to influence it - if he spent much time on animation at all at this stage. It wasn't quite finished, though, so it couldn't very well be released until later.

Spring 2005: Fluffy animals (Bambi)
Fall 2005: Princess (Cinderella)
Spring 2006: Fluffy Animals (Lady and the Tramp)
Fall 2006: Princess (Little Mermaid)
Spring 2007: Fluffy Animals (101 Dalmations)
Fall 2007: Prince of the Jungle (Jungle Book)
after reading TLM press release I kinda think 101 will be the fall release. If 4th quarter merchandise sales are important to go hand in hand with the DVD release I just see Disney being able to put dalmatian spots on more products universally than stamping Baloo or Mowgli everywhere...

Hmm..interesting point. I cannot really picture a giant campaign for
The Jungle Book - it would more than not have to be mainly targeted at boys.
Dalmatians is more universal, in my opinion.

While I can never say I have an "official" ranking of the 44 animated classics, I can say that "The Jungle Book" has always and will always be in my top 10 favorite animated classics! I just rewatched 101 Dalmatians after a long time, and to be honest, I found it really boring! If I were to rank the 10 Platinum movies, this would rank 9th place for me(only Cinderella beats it with it's crapiness).
But it is great to hear about SOTS though! I hope it comes in 2006 instead of 2007 though!
your opinions are obviously in the minority considering Cinderella is touted as one of the best by many.
And if you stop and notice, the spring platinum releases are always the lesser of the two yearly platinum releases, that means that The Jungle Book will be getting an extra special treatment when it comes out in the fall much like all of the fall Platinum releases.

If you like The Jungle Book then you must be happy because it might be released on october and this means that it will have a collectors release

Well unfortunetly, I have to admit, I don't care too much for the box sets. While they're cool, they're too expensive and not really worth it, IMO, as I can easily get other merchandise from that movie if I really wanted it! So for me, it just means nothing more than a longer wait!
But in a way, I'm glad the only reason Disney is doing this is because they're saving their best movie for last!
But it would be awesome if this got release this in March, but still gave it a gift-set! That would be cool! Too bad my perfect world doesn't exist!

Did anyone who owns the DVD already check with what Pasta67 suggested and check the page on the upcoming Platinums?

I don't think 101Dalmatians is a boring movie. I mean, it's Cruella!! She is a delight, while I'm not sure wether I prefer the animated one or Glen Close. Jungle Book is IMO a bunch of pretty songs by the Sherman Bros, a dancing bear, a hypnotizing snake and a pair of big goo goo eyes in the end. A pretty movie, but just a pretty movie. 101 Dalmatians is a really clever movie, many hilarious quotes in it. I really can't wait!!!

I was kinda wondering that myself. It really would give us confirmation so that we don't have to keep posting "I wonder which one really will be released first, but I like this-or-that movie better!". Luke, if you haven't already put the review copy of L&tT away, could you check the DVD guide and tell us which movie it says will be released for Spring 2007?

Trust me, if it had said anything, I'd have let you know. Unfortunately, it only said The Little Mermaid is coming in October, leaving us to speculate on which 2007 title will come first and Disney the security of being able to change their minds before October.

It has to be 101 Dalmatians that will come out in October 2007 because it's a bigger movie then The Jungle Book!!!!
Okay I said it!!!!

Those are really interesting lists. It's weird seeing some of them being re-released though over time.
