Wow, that's a professional way to tag an image.

I like the concept of that art but I think it's a mockup. It seems to be an enlarged version of the Timon and Pumbaa pics on the Platinum Lion King cover against a simmilar background. While it's nice that whoever made that is trying to make it in the "mood" of the new Lion King cover, I think Disney will do a bit more than enlarge portions of previous covers, especially for something they obviously precieve to be a big title (and Lion King 1 1/2 WILL be a big seller, indeed.) I'd expect adolesent Simba to be on there, too. Maybe just the walking-over-the-log shot from the Hakuna Matata sequence in TLK?

The image is a fake.

The author Hans Gravekamp writes:
Yeah, it's a fake!!! I don't know where you got it, but I created it for my own website! The new image of Timon holding up Pumbaa wasn't around at that time, and I needed an image for it! (I don't think it lookes that bad, bytheway...) but it is indeed a fake. I must say, I sure like this... An intire discussion on something I created....

As seen on Animated-Movies.net:

Extra Goodie with the Lion King DVD
'Christian' reveals that "I was surprised to find that it included The Lion King 1 1/2 Mini-Storybook that has some pictures from the movie and some of Timon's diary entries giving his perspective on the story of The Lion King. The few freeze frames of TLK 1.5 are all a little small but it appears that the animation really is the same quality as the original movie. And to add a little confusion to the question of the title one of the title logos says The Lion King 1 1/2: Timon and Pumbaa's Story."
Ohh, video caps courtesy of Disney. :) Unfortuantely, the size is supposedly small. I hope I can see some details. Diary entries? So like, they have a web blog? I didn't know Timon and Pumbaa could read and write.

DVD Toons also posted the press release of the DVD. Almost identical to the one Inga posted here a few days ago. And it's a special edition indeed!

Hilarity reigns in this all-new movie starring Timon and his windy pal Pumbaa - and featuring the new song, "That's All I Need"! Now in The Lion King 1½, see how things really happened - according to their perspective - in this rip-roaringly funny story within the story of The Lion King. In this all-new comedy-adventure, Timon and Pumbaa reveal the true hullabaloo behind their departures from their meerkat and warthog 'hoods. Tag along as the two buddies from the brush search for their dream home, share their joys and trials as they raise young Simba using the "Hakuna Matata" philosophy, then cheer them on as they help Simba save the

The DVD will have Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1? Cool! I don't know how they will sound differntly, but I'll listen to both of them. I hope Disney does include a DTS track and not remove it at the last minute.

Interesting to see that the film will be in anamorphic (1.78:1). Digital TV has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 or 16 x 9. Most of my movies are in 1:66 : 1 or 1.85 : 1. I don't have any movies in 2.35 : 1.

It'll be interesting to see how Disney uses this wider aspect ratio in this movie. I think the 1:66 aspect ratio fit Lilo and Stitch and The Lion King very well.

Thanks, Luke -- it's nice to know someone believes... :)

Anyway, the "Who Wants to Be King of the Jungle?" featurette sounds interesting. My only beef is that the new host-chick, Meredith Viera, will be doing it. I think Regis (even though he doesn't host the show anymore) would have been a lot more fun.

Yeah, Regis will always be the one people associate with WWTBAM, even if I kind of lost interest in the show, with most of the rest of the country at the end of '99 when it was such a big deal. I went to a taping once, and Regis rocks...at least more so than any host of "The View." :D

lets just be thankful it's not "Bawbawa Wawters" from "the view" :P

WOW! Nice set indeed. Hopefully the movie is good enough to warrent such a set. Also, hopefully this means that Simba's Pride SE will be a 2-disc set as well.

What bothers me, though, is that TLK1.5 is getting a DTS track and TLK isn't. I would have liked to have the original DD5.1 mix and the DEHT mix in DTS6.1. But oh well.

And what IS with the 1.78 ratio? Disney's CAPS system always uses 1.66. Maybe this is a typo?

I hope the "The Making of The Lion King 1½" wil be at least 15 minutes long. A 3 minute "featurette" doesn't contail too much detail.

Hmm, I can imagine Barbara Walters from 20/20.

Sounds like a great set. I expected it and Simba's Pride to be getting one-disc treatments like the Beauty and the Beast sequels but this is a very nice surprise indeed.

It sounds like Disney's making all the right moves. They have and are going to release great 2-disc sets this year like Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean. And next year they're releasing 2-disc sets of Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Lilo & Stitch and now The Lion King 1 1/2. Good job Disney.

I remember reading somewhere that Simba's Pride will be released as a Special Edition. Disney could be releasing it as a 2 disc set with lots of bonuses.

Timduru posted scanned images from that TLK 1 1/2 minibook that comes with the TLK dvd - click here now.

Found this out from Snowy, who posted a link on the Animated Movies forum.

Animation from the screenshots looks pretty quality, but the humor seems a bit too lowbrow. I mean, the animals "bow" to the newborn prince because Pumbaa farted and knocked them out? Please... *gag*

Seems to kinda go in and out of the story canon, too. Unless this is supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek, purposely exaggerated account from Timon's perspective, then I dunno how I'll feel about this cheapquel. But if it's supposed to be a real story, that trods all over the TLK legacy, then I'm really not gonna like it.

And I'm sorry, but I think Disney's just trying to primp and preen this movie as something it's not. They may give it lots of marketing, a widescreen format, DTS sound (though I find that really hard to believe), and a fluffed-out 2-discer (I find a substantial 2-discer for a cheapquel really hard to believe, as well), but at its core it's still a video babysitter for exasperated parents to toss on when their kids throw a tantrum.

But, we'll have to wait and see. I'll save the venom for next February.

Just curious Luke - do you get a better affiliate deal out of DVDEmpire or Amazon? If the latter is the case, I'll just wait until Amazon has it up for preorder...

It's the exact same referral %, so whatever's easiest for you. (Of course, this assumes I ever get enough DVD Empire orders to qualify for a check. :))
