I like the platinums too, however, the only thing missing is just trailers and other in depth info released at the time of its original release. I remember a great special about the music in the Lion King, will this be on the platinum edition? i hope so. But other than that i think they're great. i also think releasing a 1-disc and a two-disc would be better. Some people just want the movie and no extras ( i know, hard to imagine lol)

Well the release's for "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin" are going to have to be completley made anyways because there wasn't much on their Laserdiscs so I expect the same type of things on those DVD's as we've found on the last two (beast and lion king).
But for the Later films I really hope their up to at least the standard we saw of the "Fantasia" supplements (meaning just the extra's for the first film). I hope EVERYTHING we saw on that great "Cinderella" Laserdisc on the platinum DVD, but for Bambi, Tramp, Dalmatians and Jungle Book again Disney have to make the features again so we'll have to wait and see what we get ffrom them.

Exactly what is the problem with the Platinums? I've never owned one (I will October 7th 8) ), so that's why I'm asking. For me, even though I'd like the in-depth stuff, I'm fine with "fluff" as long as I'm occupied and as long as it's true to it's price value. Compared to other studio "Special Editions," how does the Disney Platinum line hold up?

As Phillip said, I think it would have been cool to have more details on how Walt was trying to work out Beauty and the Beast back in the day. Maybe an story treatment showing problems they had with adapting it for the screen.

Another thing I found lacking on the BATB DVD was the shortness of the galleries. Each one was about half or a third the size of each gallery on the Snow White DVD. You just know they had more drawings that what they showed.

And when the project was restarted, for a long time it was to be a live-action film before it became animated.

The galleries are my favorite feature on the Disney discs. I thought the galleries were much to short - and personally I could do without the needles animation from screen to screen.

It also missed out a number of tailers. Putting trailers on a disc should be a no-brain decision, and if you're going to go to the touble of showing all the posters and press advertsising, showing all the trailers should also be a no-brainer.

It looks like The Lion King is missing all it's trailers, but they decided it was important to show all the CD Soundtrack covers?!?!? Still, I hope the trailers are on the Lion King disc.

:o Never knew that. Thats a real eye-opener on to how much behind the scenes material was missing on BATB.

To be honest, I like the animation. It makes me feel like I'm in a museum, but I can understand how it could become tiresome - especially on BATB. The animation in the galleries is double the length of that on SW.

About the trailers: Don't beat me, but I really don't care about having all of them. 1 or 2 is fine for me, because usually, its the exact same scenes in each trailer with little variation (this is apparent on the SW previews per decade). I do agree its dissapointing not even one trailer appears to be on TLK. For all we know, it could be hidden within the mish-mash of material under the Continents menus though - that seems to be a confusing set up for the reviews so far.

I noticed that too, but I think there may be one reason for that... "Snow White" spent around 4 years in production, while "Beauty and the Beast" was produced only in 2 years. Consequently, "Beast" has less pre-production art!

I'm sorry, but there is no way it only took around 20 drawings per character/setting to come to the final look. I'm sure there is many more peices of artwork that could have been displayed in place of the silly fluff that has nothing to do with BATB (Story-Behind-The-Story, Animation Magic, etc).

What I don't like about Beauty and the Beast (and they appear to be doing it on The Lion King too, and Treasure Planet did it) is that the same footage is accessable from different menus. It's just both confusing and annoying. I did the play all on the Cogsworth window supplements and then in Mrs Potts' window I saw a listing for a documentary. Cool I thought - this will be like the Snow White or Fantasia documentries - really meaty and going into more detail than some of the smaller sections I'd already viewed. But it was exactly the same (well, that's not true, they missed some segments off!).

It seems to be a worrying Disney trend. Make the disc look like it has more content than it does. Quite why they feel the need to do this when they already have 3 hours plus of material is beyond me. Perhaps they realised BatB was missing something, so decided to cheat.

I thought it was ridiculous they reprised the same thing on the Mrs. Potts section. If they wanted a short 20-minute documentary on the making-of the film, why not include the original featurette from the LD? Oh, of course, they had to hav Celine Dion introducing the thing...

I liked Celine Dion and I really liked the Story behind the story I thought it was very interesting. I wonder if they are going to do anything similar on the Lion King disc.

Oh and about the production time and the amount of drawings and all...

Walt himself tried to adapt the story into an animated feature not once, but TWICE!!!! So I am sure there was plenty of pics and stuff. They don't just throw stuff away, they shelve it in the archives, that's where all the other disneyt animated features that never cam eto pass are. So there was endless potential there.

hmm...it was really annoying and disappointing to see all the editing they did with commentators on the BatB DVD. They barely spoke for two seconds and were promptly 'interrupted' by the next speaker...I'm sure they had plenty more to say...
