That was probably the upcoming Guy Ritchie's film, Atlantica.

Anyway, I adore 'The Sword in the Stone', so I'm excited for this.

There have been a lot of King Arthur movies over the years (including the Antoine Fuqua-directed one that Disney produced in 2004), so to me, this is just another in a long line of them. I don't know how many are about Arthur being mentored by Merlin, so it will be nice to see a new interpretation. I don't know if this will use the Sherman Brothers songs or the episodic structure of the animated film. And as much as I love the songs in The Sword in the Stone, they're hardly iconic, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were discarded.

You know what's something else that I thought about? Maybe the new film will give Disney the incentive to make another Blu-Ray release of the original, with the proper restoration that it deserves.

Just maybe. When more news for this one comes out, I'm going to send a message to Disney's home video division to show my support.

At least this is still going on. I wonder if they'll follow the original book like the animated film did, or go a completely different route.

I think Disney are doing too many live action remakes but this could be quite an experience :ears:

The Sword in the Stone live-action remake that's currently in priority development is heading to Disney's upcoming streaming service.

Well, that's a shame, but probably for the best?

Most of the other movies announced for Disney's streaming service aren't a draw for me at all, which is the opposite reaction than I think Disney intended to inspire....

Production starts in September.
We have exclusively learned that The Sword In The Stone will be filming in Belfast, Ireland and the production is aiming for a September 24, 2018, start date. It should be noted that this date could change, but with Disney’s streaming service expected to drop next year, it’s a safe bet that Disney will get this film into production sooner rather than later. The film will be directed by 28 Days Later Helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, with casting underway.

If they're just going to dump it out as fast as possible, I'm guessing this is going to be a mess.

Disney is hard at work getting their streaming service Disney+ ready for a 2019 launch. One of the films Disney is looking to feature on the service is a live-action remake of Sword In The Stone, and now we have an update to share with you. We have learned that the film will shoot in Belfast, Northern Ireland and the production is aiming for a start date this summer. The film was originally set to begin production last September.

We have also obtained some character breakdowns on the film.

Wart (lead male 12-15): Caucasian. An orphan named Arthur, also known as Wart. Bright, witty, and stubborn. Take part in a tournament where he is revealed as king.

Merlin (lead male 30-60): Open to any ethnicity. An old and eccentric wizard who aids and educates Arthur.

Sir Ector (lead male 30-50): Open to any ethnicity. Arthur’s foster father.

Madam Mim (lead female 30-60): Open to any ethnicity. A black magic proficient witch and Merlin’s nemesis.

The film will be directed by 28 Days Later Helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, from a script by Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones). Also joining the production team is Fresnadillo’s 28 Weeks Later cinematographer Enrique Chediak. Chediak worked on last years Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee, and the recently wrapped live-action remake of Lady And The Tramp, which is also headed to Disney+.

This movie will live or die on who they get to play Merlin.

I wouldn't mind if they just used the actor for Merlin from OUAT... I didn't expect Merlin to be young and handsome, but the actor ended up giving one of my favorite portrayals on that show.

I think this movie will have a very small audience. So Disney will probably stunt cast Merlin with a major actor to get more people to watch the movie.

Joshua Jekins could play Arthur.

I recently saw him in West End. He is a great actor !

Q: What happened to The Sword in the Stone remake?

The DisInsider: The studio wanted it filming last summer, then it moved to this summer, likely will miss that as we've heard no new details on the project.

Skyler Shuler: The Sword in the Stone has been delayed.

Q: How come it was delayed?

Skyler Shuler: Have no idea, they were supposed to begin filming in 2018 in Ireland.
