SONG OF THE SOUTH

Well actually the reasons why Song Of The South were never released in the USA are to many to post on this little thread but here is a little bit of info obtained from
http://www.allmovie.com

For many years one of the most popular Disney films, Song of the South has been criticized for soft-pedaling race relations during the South's Reconstruction era. Many of the African-American characters, especially Uncle Remus, are considered too Uncle Tom-ish, and there's no denying that the film does not address the real concerns of the black characters, other than as how they relate to the white characters. However, if one can get past this considerable stumbling block, there is a great deal to admire in Song. The story is melodramatic but engrossing, filled with an appealing innocence which may be too fanciful to be true, but is irresistible nonetheless. The score is a delight, and includes the classic "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," as well as the infectious "Laughing Place" and the sinuous "Sooner or Later." What makes the film, however, are the fabulous animated sequences (as well as the artful blending of live action and animation). The cartoon characters have a life and vitality that is palpable; they truly light up the screen. Both the live action and animated segments are aided by a lush color palette that is truly gorgeous. The cast is quite good, with Bobby Driscoll and Luana Patten adorable without being cloying, and James Baskett avuncular and charming. Due to the controversy surrounding it, Song of the South has been largely unavailable in the U.S. since 1986. — Craig Butler

Gus,

I charge $40 shipped for the DVD lately. The competition is getting pretty fierce as of late. They still go on eBay for over $60 usually (when it doesn't get pulled by eBay).
Hey, I got it from you for $5!!

BOOTLEG DVD'S

:)

Why has this subject gotten onto the conversation of fake DVD's ? SONG OF THE SOUTH is a great movie and if you want it now you can buy one of the fake DVD'S but I would just wait until Disney just puts it out in their own due time!

Simba,

Are you sure that you want a VHS dub of SOTS?

TLK, your prices have gone up on SOTS? Wow, I'm glad I got it earlier (back in February, I think) for only $7 ($5 for the "expenses of making the DVD-R", $2 for shipping)!

And as an experiment, I hooked up my DVD/VCR to another VCR to see if I could make a VHS dub. It worked (I guess there was no macrovision when you made the DVD< TLK?), and I'm keeping the dub as a back-up if any idiot ever screws around with the DVD.

ETA:

Noticed LovelyBelle got it for $5 as well. So when did the price hike up?

I think it was clearly understood that Luke DOESN´T want us to discuss buying illegal items for sale between us, here on the forum.
So stop doing that then....
Already forgot the harsh discussion about this earlier this year in the TRADE forum????? 8)

There are already beeing people charged by the FBI for selling illigal copyes of it, so please don't promote such illigal activities here on UD.

Aparently the guy that the FBI is after made 250 thousand selling bottleg copies of it. You'd think disney would figure out that there is a strong market for it from that alone.

I have been authorized by the FBI to put an end to this bootlegging ring right now. All of you need to put your keyboards down right now and turn yourselves in to your local authorities. Thank you for your cooperation.

Actually, the stories in Song of the South were made up on Laura Plantation in Louisiana by a slave pre-civil war. I also seem to remember that this plantation was later owned by black people. Just letting yall know, being from Louisiana and all :)

That was an old post. What you received was a special deal I was making with a cheaper spindle of DVD-R blanks that I wanted to be rid of. That's all.

Most authoring programs don't let you region code nor enable macrovision. That's quite normal.

Only a little, and only once I got higher-quality (and more expensive) blank DVD-Rs.

Now, let's make everyone on this forum happy not discuss this any more, okay? Thanks. :)
