. Just a quickie though,
The Ghibli movies being released now (may apply only to UK) have numbers on their covers Nausicaa being 1 and Cat's Return being 2, is there any reason they're done like this? I mean, it's not in the order of release is it? Just got me thinking

Well I don't know anything about it, but it may be the wave.

Play.com has put this artwork up for Porco Rosso, but Pom Poko remains blank.

Here's more added,
My Neighbour Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service
I was going to post about this site,
http://www.madman.com.au/studioghibli/kiki.html yesterday.
About how the australian DVD's are similar, and these 4 confirm it. Its only really Pom Poko and Nausicaa that are different, so from this list we can probably tell the covers for the rest to be released.

I'd have to say these cover arts are lightyears better than Region 1's. I'm jealous.

Do the numbers really mean anything?

Nope, not a sausage, just the order in which optimum has released them

Thanks Ichabod. I didn't think it did, at least I knew it wasn't original release date order.
I guess it makes people want to colllect all 9. 'oh no, it goes from 6-8, I must get 7! or my collection won't be complete.'

Although due to the fact that Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies were released before they started this numbering system, if won't really be complete anyway, so there isn't much point really!

Yeah that's a point, I bet we'll see numbers 10 and 11 soon then

Well Whisper of the Heart will be 10 and Only Yesterday and My Neighbors the Yamadas will be 11 and 12 in which ever order. Although there could be a 3 disc Spirited Away on the cards, it was supposed to be released in May, then it kept getting bumped, and has disappeared, but who knows?

Oh yeah I forgot about those three. *silly me

* I'm glad the releases are regular though, mind you, that means i'll have to plan my spending more.

These covers are absolutely beautiful! No offence to any of the Region 1 buyers, but the Region 1 covers have been absolutely hideous. The Cat Returns and Porco Rosso Region 1 covers are abominable with really dark colours and boring images. Well done to Optimum for releasing quality Ghibli DVDS. I really think the covers do matter because they give you an impression of the film within. I really can't wait to pick up the rest of the U.K Ghibli DVDS.
P.S Everyone must pick up "Whisper of the Heart", which is one of the finest films ever made, animated or otherwise. I am itching to buy it from a video shop in person even though I own a Japanese copy.

They are beautiful, I love all the cover art, although Pom Poko's artwork doesn't seem to fit in with the same

, probably because its so dark and that the picture doesn't fill the whole cover. I wish we still go the same bonus features as R1 though..it's not much more..but its still more.

Optimum has also released Isao Takahata's 1st film The Little Norse Prince. This film hasn't even been released to region 1 yet!
They also released Cagliosto with the old English dub but with more extras than the region 1 version.

OK! Now I'm really jealous. First you guys get Only Yesterday and all your DVDs have good cover art and match. But now you get Little Norse Prince Valiant!
Maybe at least that means we may get it here in region 1.
