As for me, I never saw ND, though I hear it's both frickin' hilarious by some or frickin' lame by others. I don't really wanna waste a rental on the movie, so I'll probably just borrow it from someone I know who already has it.

I haven't seen it, but I know quite a few people who love it. My friend however said, "If you do see it, see it once, because the more you watch it, the more annoying it gets".

I might rent it sometime.

I don't have it, but I found the movie enjoyable. There are just some movies that are so stupid and random that it's hilarious. That may sound like an insult, but I don't mean it that way. Those who have seen it know what I mean. I do think it's a bit overrated, seeing as how everyone quotes the movie now and wears merchandise from it, but that doesn't get in the way of my enjoying it.

If you've never seen it, it's definately worth at least one viewing.

I certainly do not own this terrible film in my collection. It's so stupid. It's not funny at all..I hate its style of humor. If someone gave it to me as a gift, I'd return it and buy anything as a replacement..even a DTV sequel!

Although I strongly disliked the movie, I agree that Pedro made the movie. He was swell. But..if I see another person wearing a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt I'm going to...ergh! @$#%&

Escopay needs to get a life. If you werent' around in the sixties and in school you wouldn't get all the jokes in this movie. AGE does have alot to do whether you enjoy this movie for what it is trying to say. I lived this guys life to inth degree and I WAS the Napoleon Dynamite at my high school. I even helped elect a guy named Pete (Pedro is Pete in Spanish) to the Student Body President position even though he didn't want it.

I have nothing against the younger people who get the joke, but for the most part those that hate this film are those who aren't at all familiar with 'high school life' in the sixties.

Jon Heder, who played Napoleon in the film, is a very good actor and was very reluctant to play this role because he didn't "get it". When he was assured that what he was being asked to do he dove into it head first and made this a very funny movie. Look for him in the new film "Benchwarmers" which is due out this fall.

As someone who has been a member of this forum for nearly a year and a moderator at other forums that no doubt have similar guidelines in place, I'm pretty surprised that you would need a reminder, but there it is, nonetheless.


Interesting on-topic fact: The movie was directed by Jared Hess, who co-wrote the film with his wife Jerusha Hess. They based much of it on personal experiences, and I'm fairly certain were both born in the late '70s. So while certain things may have resonated with your high school experiences of the 1960s, that may just speak of certain timeless qualities of high school life rather than the film being specifically influenced by an older period or requiring viewers to be familiar with a past era. If any nostalgia is on display, I would observe the soundtrack and wardrobe selections as being particularly '80s-influenced.

I liked AvP, Son of Mask, The Scooby Doo Movies and Meet the Fockers!!!!

I don't think the movie's set in the 60's, 70's, or 80's. If you've seen the movie, you may remember that Kip "chatted online with babes" on several occasions. This couldn't have happened before about 1995. So as sad as it may seem, the movie is supposed to represent a far more recent "Idaho." I know some people from Idaho who were somehwat offended that this was the representation of their state, but when I was there two months ago, I had to chuckle at some of the clothes and hair I saw. Uncle Rico's eBay time machine works better than he thought.

I take it the film is modern. To me it's a small community sort of stuck in the 80's... but hey they are keeping with the times with 'Internet'. (Back in the early 90's when some people would talk about the Internet they would not say the Internet but just Internet without the 'the'. )
Another community stuck in the times (the early 90's) according to a South Park episode I saw yesterday is Des Moines Iowa. (the frozen 1996 man episode)

Definantly not me as I Hated that movie it was the worst movie ever made I Fell asleep during because it was so dumb. One of my friends at school likes it however and at school I see people including my friend wearing Vote for Pedro T-Shirts and everytime I see one I feel like burning it. And if what a hear about a Special Edition coming out I will shoot myself just kiddng. Proud to be a Beauty and the Beast & Phil Collins Fan and all of this is my opinion

My brother and his girlfriend rented this a few months ago, they quote it all the time, and often say stuff in his accent. (i've never seen it, but she got it him on dvd for christmas, so i think i will )

She even has a 'vote for pedro' T-shirt and badge!

It seems that Napolean Dynamite is a 'marmite' movie, you either love it or hate it!

Yeah I've got Napoleon Dynamite in my DVD collection It's a pretty good movie but the first time I saw it I absolutely hated it! Then I saw it again and thought it was pretty good. A few months ago we were at Blockbuster and they had a thing where if you bought two used DVDs you could get the third one free so Napoleon Dynamite WAS that third one ('cause my mom couldn't find anything else lol)

Great news Wondy! Just a couple days ago they announced a 2-Disc Special Edition of this film here!

It includes commentaries, a short film called "Peluca", TV promo appearances with the cast, behind-the-scenes footage, "The Real Napoleon Dynamite" documentary, Jon Heder's Saturday Night live opening monologue, a graphic evolution of the Liger vs. the Tigon, cast interviews, outtakes, deleated scenes and (the highlight of this DVD to top it off) a tutorial on how to dance like Napoleon!!!

Since I just recently discovered this awesome movie, I can't wait to buy it!

Watched this last night on our HBO free weekend. I didn't really like it, but I didn't hate it. There were a few funny parts, but most of the movie I just sat there wondering whats so great about this. Maybe I didn't "get it"? I don't know.

Although I have walked around going Yesssss, and Gosh today. "That movie has warped my fragile little mind."

The Napoleon Dynamite character did remind me of a guy that was at our High School though.

Of course I have this DVD in my flippin' collection, what do ya think?! It so awesome... its like so sweet...like one of the funniest DVDs ever. I got it last summer while hunting wolverines in Alaska.

I got it in my DVD collection! I actually got it when it first came out when there wasn't much talk about it. I did want to see when it came to theaters but I never got the chance. But when it came out..I got it.Also I got some of the T-Shirts. Does anyone else have those?
