Disneykid wrote:No widescreen, no sale. Sorry, Disney. You could've easily earned another 80 bucks from me had these been in their OAR. I'm currently taking these off of my DVDAficionado wishlist. Here's hoping at the slim chance that this press release is screwed up, otherwise, I now have more money to spend on other studio's DVDs, all of which are OAR.
Amen. I'll just go pick up the Columbia/Tristar releases of the first two movies in Walmart's $5.99 bin before I go shell out money on Disney's "special edition"s that chop the movies up.

And I've followed your cue and deleted them from my DVDAficionado Wish List, just in case Disney gets any data from that.

Well, you guys took all the words I was gonna put!

But here I go:
That's messed up. :x
Damn Disney.

I'm definitely NOT going to buy these movies unless they're put in their OAR.

I bought the old MCC and MTI way back when they were released simply because I had never owned them before, but I e-mailed Disney and told them that if they do not release them in widescreen, then I will not double dip as planned and will pick up the Sony releases of TMM and TGMC. I really hope they change their minds. Especially since we just got a widescreen tv and now pan and scan is even more annoying stretched. lol.

I was pondering on getting The Muppet Christmas Carol...but I think that I'll definately save my money. My video will hold me out. That was using the format to its limits. The foolscreen DVD, however, is not.

So, as you know, I emailed an irate letter to Disney. I just got a response, and I'm shocked.
Liam,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding THE MUPPET MOVIE, GREAT MUPPET CAPER, MUPPET
CHRISTMAS CAROL and MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND. We appreciate your interest.

We do not have release dates for at this time. Please visit our website at
www.disneyvideos.com
for future details.

Thank you for sharing your preference for a widescreen format with us. We
appreciate hearing the opinions of our viewers, and we will forward your
comments to our Marketing Department.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

The very definition of BS. If they truly "appreciated hearing the opinions of (their) viewers", these films would be in OAR, but they're not. Bloody hell!

Hello all, I actually just called Disney themselves and and out out that all of the discs are going to feature both the Full Frame and the Widescreen versions of the film. :D

I also called Disney to follow up, and I was assured that the Muppet movies will now come with both widescreen and fullscreen aspect ratios on the disc. The cast member already had the answer for me before I finished the question, so this must be something they were all advised on today. She forwarded my appreciation to Disney for making the change (and she also said she recognized me when I gave her my name- not quite sure what that means). This is great news! :-D

Yes, this is the email that was sent out, but since then, there has been more information released saying that the discs will contain both the FF and the WS versions of the movie. So if you see another one of those emails, the information is now outdated and incorrect.

Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum, and a lifelong Disney and Muppets fan. This is excellent news from Disney! Last night I also emailed Disney requesting (i.e. demanding) that they include WS on all those Muppet films. So glad they're going to include them now.

From the Digital Bits:

By the way, we've been getting a lot of questions about this from panicked fans: Disney's upcoming Muppet feature film DVDs (The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, Muppet Treasure Island and The Muppet Christmas Carol - due 11/29) will each include BOTH full frame and anamorphic widescreen video. That's confirmed, direct from the studio. So endeth the controversy.

Yay indeed! I wonder if it was the result of people calling and emailing or if they "planned" this all along...

Edit: I just received this email from Disney in response to the one I sent yesterday:
Thank you for your e-mail regarding Muppet movies.

In celebration of Kermit's 50th Anniversary, THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE MUPPET MOVIE, THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER, and MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND will be released on Disney DVD. These titles will be released in both Widescreen and Fullscreen formats and are tentatively scheduled to be released on November 29, 2005.

Please visit our website at

for further details.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.
