Please don't tell me these are rare and worth more. I sold a bunch of my older videos on ebay as I replaced them on dvd. I always include a scan, but there was no mention of black diamond in the text or titles to aid searching.

I pick Cinderella for black diamond. Not because its my 2nd fav movie but because the cover is beautiful and magical like Jack said...

once the dvd came out with a better quality, i think they went down in value. true disney collector's are the only ones interested in these now and basically it's just for the box art value not the film value. before the rerelease of dvd i think the black diamond films were worth more than some of the masterpiece films but i'm not quite sure if how far down in price they've gone. i wouldn't be too worried about a loss of money here.

Before the advent of DVD's they were more valuable. But as disneyfella says, I wouldn't be worried with it. Even before Disney started to release the animated classics on DVD, the most I saw Black Diamonds go for on E-bay was $35-40. And when you consider how much VHS tapes cost in the earlier days of VCR's, the monetary value really isn't that much different. I've checked on E-bay a few times over the past year or so, and the Black Diamonds I saw were much less than what I paid for them when I was collecting them, back before I knew anything about this silly DVD thing :brick:

This is just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure that the VHS editions of movies will be worth a heck of a lot more than any DVD.

Don't believe me? Which is worth more: the reproductions of Disney storybooks found at any Chapters, or the original editions sold back in the '30s-'50's?

Those are two totally different things. Videotape was poor quality to begin with and it only gets worse over time. DVDs are more archival. No one wants VHS anymore.

Exactly, you can't improve on the technology of a book so it is easier for those to really become collector's items. Nothing is fundamentally changing. The DVD releases offer so much more than their VHS counterparts, the only value would really be to true Disney memorabilia collectors, and I question if that would be that much. They would probably want the case for the art, more than they would want the tape inside.

My favorites of the Black Diamond covers:

Bambi
Fox and the Hound
Little Mermaid
The Jungle Book

If I have to vote for one...hmm...Little Mermaid, I guess. I like the symmetry.

Black Diamond faves:

Sleeping Beauty (they should've used that for the DVD release! at least the bottom portion IMO)
Beauty and the Beast
Cinderella

Of those three...I guess I'd pick Sleeping Beauty

I actually think the Black Diamond of Sleeping Beauty is one of the weakest of the Black Diamond covers; I think the Masterpiece Collection cover for Sleeping Beauty is the best SB cover out there though the widescreen cover is really nice, too.
