There will be someone new to play Superman in the movie. I think it will be a regular movie not Smallville. Gosh...Hollywood is milking the superhero thing for all it's worth.

I think Pirates will do fine. Johnny Depp is in it. Every movie he acted in is good. =)

yeah i think Superman will beat Pirates next year. or they could make the same amount of money...or close

If Spiderman can make 400million So Can Superman
Pirates Of The Carribbean will Be Like Sherk 2 and Lord Of The Rings 2 Where They Make More than the original.. but Pirates should not gross as much as those other sequels did because Pirates still has just as a large fanbase as they did back in 03 while Lord of The Rings Kept Growing

Men loved Pirates because of the great story and action. The girls loved it because of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom! SO BAM!!! A perfect "date" movie!

While Superman will do well, I don't think it has much competition between Pirates because IMO people have lost interest over Superman ever since Chirstopher Reeves couldn't act any more(his back problems!)

I hope Pirates will beat Titanic! Or at least that hideous Shrek 2!

Well Disney also has there last film with Pixar next year.

Incredibles made 250million and Nemo made 340million so Cars will likely make around 315million

Piartes should do better than that... Piartes I hope makes somewhere around 350million with the sequel after makin around 375million

uhm... Superman is bound to be under heavy criticism, like most superhero flicks. PoTC2 however, has Johnny Depp.... Johnny Depp..... hello, how can that film not storm the Box Office?? Remember when a little movie about a sinking boat made short of 2 billion worldwide, due to teenage girl hormones paying to see Dicaprio over and over again. This has Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, it's definitely gonna cause another teenage hormone explosion. And the first one, was not a perfect movie.. it was overlong and a little of the same constantly, but because people loved the whole pirate concept, they just wanted more. That's where the sequel comes in.

I think what people really liked about PotC (besides the great looking actors) is that it's the first pirate movie to be pulled off really well and in an uncheasy manner. Story is good (though nothing innovative) and characters are fun, not just serious. That's what holds this movie together as a good pirate film.

Yeah, like Cutthroat Island... Pirates will definitely trump Superman, nobody cares about Clark Kent anymore, but everyone loves a Mr. Jack Sparrow!!!

Well From seeing Harry Potter and Narnia..I got reactions what people saw over the teaser...Some people were excited about Superman in the theater..but everyone was mostly cheering during Pirates.

I think that Superman will make more than Pirates of The Carribbean simply because everyone knows who he is. There is a whole new generation ready for this film. With better reffects this movie will be huge. While I am alot more excited for Pirates I just think that more people would see this.

I think that Superman Returns will make about 120million from Wedensday to Sunday and it should total in around 380million by the end of the summer.

Now Pirates will make more than the first one..I think it wont be that far Behind Superman.

I think that from Wedensday to Sunday Pirates 2 will make about 90million and in total it shold make around 325-350million.

traditionally, sequels almost always gross less than originals

Star Wars grosses were bigger then Empire, which were bigger than Jedi

The first Harry Potter made more than the second, which did more than the third (bucking the trend, the fourth HP beat out the second for gross, but not the first)

Jurassic Park grossed more than JPII which grossed more than JPIII

Spiderman made more than Spiderman 2

Superman made more than Superman II which made more than III which made more than IV

The only movie series I know which build from first being lowest to last being highest was LOTR

So I would not expect POTC2 to gross more than POTC

I agree thnose of us that have been predicting over on the off-topic board have pirates 2 at at least the same if not more than the original. While I am glad to see a new Superman movie I am more excited about Pirates.

Superman should make more (on upwards of 375-400) but Pirates should do at least 325. the first had a great long run but if it follows the tradition of sequals it won't do as well (shrek2 & LOTR 2&3 being oddballs)

Yes they are both big releases! But they are very diffirent, not really the same genre - so I dont think that 'Superman' will ruin the release of 'PoTC2'...

Also I think there are a big enough audience around the world for two movies to make big the same year - it HAS happened before...

there are other movies where the sequals did better than the origionals.

Matrix reloaded, matrix, matrix revolutions

Also, Austin Powers sequels continued to do better than the original.
