Actually, there were criticisms regarding the portrayal of Native Americans most of which I find without merit. As for the historical inaccuracies and alteration the films is often criticized for, Disney was clear from the start that it was going to be based on the romanticized legend; not the historical Pocahontas. I wonder how many know Pocahontas is based on her voice actress Irene Bedard who is of Native American descent. I know most people at the time accused Pocahontas of being based on Naomi Campbell but if her voice actress did resemble a model that much I can that would be a good compliment to her.

Man, I just want to watch the movie. When I do, I hope I'll be engaged in the story, rooting for the heroes, loving the music and being reconnected with my childhood through the magic of a Disney movie.

I hope to God, I'm not obsessing about whether this pose or that facial expression look just like Rapunzel or whether Anna and Elsa would be interchangeable if they swapped dressed and wigs. Or wishing Anna was Latina and Elsa was Sumatran.

Otherwise I think I'll have wasted a shitload of money on tickets and concessions, and wasted a pretty great opportunity to spend time with and bond with my kids.

I suspect the general public might feel the same way.

The other day I watched Tangled after watching Frozen trailers and videos, and when I saw Rapunzel I didn't had the feeling I had recently saw her (Because I had been seeing Anna). I felt she was totally different, those little differences in their looks were enough. Still, they have some similarities, and it's half because, yes, they're from the same universe, they are both Disney characters and they have the same eye style, nose style, freckles, just like Ariel and Belle had the same eyes style, Alice and Wendy looked exactly the same. I'm not an animator so I will accept what Lino Di Salvo said about animation being hard. Ok, I don't know why animating A FEMALE would be harder, but I'm not and animator, he may have his reasons. And the other reason Anna and Rapunzel may be similar could be that, yes, "Rapunzel was succesful, people liked her, they'll like Anna."
I still think all the criticism is ridiculous since we have not even seen a full animated long clip yet. Not even that. I'm just looking forward to watch the film and they finally give my opinion about that. I'm looking forward to the music. I've seen that in disneyanimation YouTube channel, some Princess and The Frog videos featuring the music appeared the same day the movie came out. So It's going to be a long wait. I hope something leaks before.

Honestly when I look at Rapunzel and Anna's pictures together, I just don't see it.

I really couldn't possibly care less about some silly "controversy" that these crazy "fans" made up because they couldn't find something to post about. I don't care what they say, I will still see this movie full price when it comes out, and I will judge it on IT'S OWN TERMS thank you very much!

So I don't usually share work stuff on here, and I certainly can't say much, but I thought I'd at least give a little hope during all the nonsense surrounding this movie. My girlfriend was lucky enough to see Frozen today, and said it knocks it out of the park. She said plenty of grown men were crying in the theater (always a good sign as far as I'm concerned haha), and it's "definitely my favorite so far of the current generation of Disney movies." She said it's the Beauty and the Beast to Tangled's Little Mermaid. A little bigger, more broadwayish, darker, etc. She said that when it comes out all the tumblr haters will be eating their words

I know it's not much to go off of, but for what it's worth, I think there's still plenty reason to stay excited for this one.

Strange, people say Tangled was the Beauty and the Beast to The Princess and the Frog's Little Mermaid because Tangled was a hit critically and financially and The Princess and the Frog (while it wasn't the big moneymaker everyone hoped for) was a hit with critics and audiences, made a lot of money thanks to Blu-ray/DVD sales AND managed to get people interested in seeing Disney films in the theaters again.

I think for Frozen the more appropriate movie to compare it to is the Lion King. Because last year Wreck It Ralph was like Aladdin in success.

Also like The Rescuers Down Under, Winnie the Pooh was also really well recieved by critics and audiences but it was quite a bomb when it was released.

Hahah okay okay, compare what you will. Obviously we can't compare the success of Frozen yet, so I think this comparison was more based on the feel of the movie itself. Like I said, darker, more broadway. Similar to BatB.

Loved Frozen. Loved. My 15 year-old daughter and her friend are ready to turn right back around and see it again.

And in the interest of balance:

I've seen the whole thing now - it is a Norwegian Tangled. Wholly disappointing. The humor is just an extension of recent WDAS product. They haven't even tried to change the human or animal forms. I found the whole thing to be unoriginal. It is mildly engaging but it is nothing more than a cookie cutter version of WDAS' mantra.

Not really. Aladdin made more money even though Ralph had the advantage of 20 years of inflation and 3D tickets. Aladdin has also staked a much larger place in the public imagination.

I don't think it's a good idea to force comparisons to the Renaissance era films. I love both Wreck-it-Ralph and especially Tangled but in terms of cultural impact and financial success, they don't really match up. Disney were the undisputed kings of Western animation back then whereas they are now playing second fiddle to Pixar and Dreamworks (regardless of my personal opinions on the quality of their respective outputs).

Does this mean that early screenings of this movie might be around the corner very soon?

I'm not sure I'm keen with the comparisons to the Renaissance era. They seems to be based on one specific point (songs, box office returns, tone) as opposed to a broad overview. No matter. I'm tired of all the arguing. Thankfully it seems to be calming down.
