The pig/rooster/Maui are what I’d normally expect from M&C; they usually have a heavy number of sidekicks following the protagonist around and Maui sounds a bit like Genie. It’s the other characters that sound more like roadtrip filler—like the trolls from Frozen, the “I’ve Got a Dream” characters in Tangled, etc.

Ray was a strong sidekick who actually had a purpose in the road trip and a good arc. It's just stupid that they killed Ray off. Louis isn't bad, but he wasn't necessary and was just there.
I was glad that Tiana got a human sidekick. Personally I think Disney should've used more human sidekicks priorly, especially in the 90's. The closest one that we have is Nakoma and in a lesser extent Thomas in Pocahontas and somewhat Grimsby to Prince Eric. And if you think about it, the enchanted objects are the Beast's sidekicks, so technically they're human. At least Ariel gets to interact with her sisters in the series, despite not being actual sidekicks, they're her "human" counterparts.

However, though Charlotte serves the same function as Nakoma (the best friend), they're both different characterizations. Nakoma is realistic, prissy and rigid (and frankly unlikable, despite that I'm one of those who defends her for telling Kocoum about her friends whereabouts), while Charlotte is a comedic girl, both design- and personality-wise. But Nakoma was created when it was decided that the animals would loose their dialogue (according to the Audio Commentary on the Laserdisc), so she was a last choice.

I need to point out that this is not an official video and the person drawing is in no way affiliated with the film's production.

I like Charlotte a lot, since it's rare for Disney films to have human sidekicks, let alone Disney Princess films. I can't stand Ray...his design, his voice, his songs, his plot points. I wasn't really upset that he was killed off, especially since he got has happy ending with Evangeline at the end anyway, even if I found that to be too contrived. Louis is ok. I like him more than others since most people seem to despise him, but I can see why his humor wouldn't resonate with most. Also, I preferred the original idea that he was a human trapped as an alligator because of Facilier.

I can't wait to own this movie on Blu-ray so that I can constantly pause the image to take in all of the Lava goddess' details. I thought that they wouldn't be able to top Zootopia's ability to cram so much into a shot, but Disney keeps resetting the bar high, both for themselves and for other studios. I mean, this still-frame honestly looks like a painting you'd see in a Concept Art book rather than something from a CGI movie.

I'm getting Fantasia 2000 flashbacks and I love it. :D

I'm certain that the shot is taken from a song sequence.

And telling from Instagram and Snapchat, it sounds like they're doing three featurettes for Disney Channel with Dwayne/Auli'l, John/Ron, and Lin (Obviously the music featurette)

I liked this preview better than the official teaser. Because it was showed the characters more and was simly better as a whole. The Moana/Maui dynamic is clearly taken from the dynamics in the last Princess movies. I liked Auli'i's voice, it was clear, youthful and perky. I wasn't particularly impressed with Maui's Tattoo animation, but it will most likely grow on me. The animation is otherwise gorgeous.
