So about 1 month after Moana's teaser trailer released, we have critics on Maui's weight & Moana not being in the Princess line-up "presumably because she's non white" and in other news Illumination's Secret Life of Pets just grossed over $103 million domestically this weekend, crushing Zootopia's $75 million opening this past March :( Could this mean that SING will be a big hit this December & effect Moana's Box Office gross :( But hey, Pixar is just killing it with Dory. So not all bad news.

The Mother Island is named Te Fiti and Moana's island is Motunui.
Thanks for the clarification! Then, I was wrong. The island and the lava goddess are two different characters after all.
Thank God! :pink:

I would kind of accept if they depicted the character as more of a destructive force of nature as the goddess of Earth and Fire (like, say, Hexxus from FernGully) if they want to go into ambivalent territory. I'd rather that than an anti-villain who either becomes good or was misunderstood the whole time.

Is Hei Hei the pig or the rooster? I'm guessing the pig; sounds like a similar direction to Olaf (as far as the IQ being 0 part). Te Fiti sounds interesting, too. Thank you, Disney Analysis, my hope is restored! :P
disneyprincess11 wrote:Oh crap, Moana will NOT join the lineup!
I'm sure this is just temporary until the film has been released for a year. Especially if the film is huge, there's no way she won't join the line eventually. Of course, if it bombs, she'll disappear into the void with Kida and Eilonwy.

Warm Regards already brought up my other point, which is that they might be holding out to see if the character and film could be a strong seller without the DP line first, like Frozen has been (I'm not sure if Anna and Elsa have even fully joined the line yet...). If it is because the "colored" princesses don't sell well-enough (which could be believable considering they generally do put those characters at the back of the busoutside of the group lineups), then they deserve to be raked over the coals for it.

Elsa and Anna were originally suppose to be included in the princess franchise. But Disney decided to keep them separate because the film/characters are so popular. Maybe they anticipate Moana having the same success? I agree they will most likely wait and see if she can be a big seller on her own. If not they will probably add her to the princess line eventually.

Hei Hei is the rooster, Pua the pig. ;) They both don't speak.

Hi Disney Analysis! :)

I'm sure many will consider this unimportant, but were the Disney and WDAS logos at the beginning of the film stylised in any way? Or were they just the regular versions? I would personally love to see a WDAS film with custom logos.

Thank you for the information you contribute both here and at Disney Central Plaza!

Found this on Twitter: Moana's voice actress with a bearded Disney Animator wearing a Frozen shirt :D

Or with the creative variations of the logos which Disney used in the 2000's. I liked the current logo initially, but I've grown tired of it.

Glad there's someone who appreciates the changing Walt Disney Pictures logos of the early to mid-2000s. :) The films themselves may be massively unpopular, but I think the stylised logos for Home on the Range and Chicken Little are lovely.

The Japanese teaser poster has been released. I'm glad they didn't include Maui on the poster.

Might be because they're trying to associate it with the princess films, though I suppose Rapunzel is popular enough in Japan to warrant its mention over more recent releases?

Surely, I can't be the only one worrying that Disney mit be shooting themselves in the foot by releasing this merely weeks before Rogue One.

I mean, remember Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog and The Good Dinosaur? The first one was released on Thanksgiving around the same time Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released. Guess which one got overshadowed?

Then The Princess and The Frog was released a week before Dances With Wolves in Space. Okay, technically, PatF wasn't released on Thanksgiving, but it did get shoved into DwWiS's shadow. And I will never refer to Avatar as anything else.

The Good Dinosaur? Released Thanksgiving time, got overshadowed by the latest Star Wars movie when Christmastime came.

Thus, I'm concerned about Moana doing well. :(

Don't think that will be a problem. They said Tangled would get overshadowed by Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows Pt.1 "didn't happen" & they said that Frozen would be overshadowed by The Hunger Games Catching Fire "also didn't happen".

WDAS is once again an established brand, which means whatever they release, it's going to make money.

And Big Hero 6 opened the same day as Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and actually beat it, when many people were expecting the opposite. Zootopia also out-grossed Batman v Superman earlier this year, something I don't think anyone predicted.

I think Disney knows how to make sure both Moana and Rogue One make plenty of money. If Moana ends up being as beloved as Frozen, it stands a real chance of doing huge business. I don't think The Good Dinosaur was affected by The Force Awakens. Even before Star Wars opened, The Good Dinosaur just wasn't clicking with audiences and bringing in the usual Pixar crowds.

Oh gosh, I hope it's not from the actual movie. It looks too stylished and fluffy.
