Wow, I didn't know that. I did know that they are circles of animators creating comics. Yeah I knew the Sakura board is not from Clamp. It's a doujin. You probably already knew this, but a doujin is original work that creates an already existing character in their own style, or just creates their own work/characters. I think personal style is what sets all Anime cartoons apart.

I forget that word, thanks for the reminder. I think it's cool how people try to create works off of existing titles but sometimes it's just disturbing, especially with fangirls who enjoy pairing up male characters. Have you produced any doujin yourself? Got any pics? I agree with the personal style comment - I find myself admiring many types myself.

I have many, but I would have to dig them up. I'll post pics tomorrow. I took AP art in High School, my creative side awoke in that class. I'm majoring in Animation. I just started, right now I'm only taking general ed such as math. But in Spring the hard work will begin as I'm taking four classes two of them for my major. I'm so excited. Usually doujin work is highly limited and extremely rare and pricy, so if you have the privilege of owning doujin work I advice you to hold on to it.

You're an animation major? That's really cool. At one point I've considered art as a major but then I looked at some of my friends struggling with many projects and the expensive art supplies. I like art but drawing is something I'd rather do as a hobby. If I'm forced to do it, I would lose interest in it (at least that's what I think). I have some old sketches I did over a year ago:





Some problem I have with sketching are body proportions and hands. I've never considered collecting doujin art but I may start a collection should I saw some really good work.

I know tell me about it, art supplies are way too expensive. But I can't let that stop me, I've been dreaming of being an Animator since I was a child, but my parents never had money to put me in a good Animation school. I'm pretty much self taught. I really like your work, it's good for a person who doesn't take it seriously. I have mastered proportions, I'm not the best but I am fairly good. My specialty is female figures, I don't know theres something about the female body I adore. I just love drawing the female body. I used to always wanna work for Disney, but Disney has let me down in some aspects. So who knows where I will end up, but one things for sure, I will work my ass off! I aspire to beat the competition, hopefully I will.

You should collect pencil boards, not trying to push it on you, but it's fun and maybe we can trade sometime.

lol, at one point I wanted to work for Disney (as a kid) but after their Rennaisance period started to fade, I lost interest. The work just doesn't have the same quality anymore. It's good to hear that you're pushing to make your dream as a reality though. I applaude you for that. Have you ever animated before? Something like a mini flip book on a post-it?

I got a sketchbook for Christmas so right now I'm trying to fill up the pages. Thanks for your comments. I also prefer drawing females because there's just more variety in how to present them. Males are ok but I can only come up with so many hair styles! Right now I have a box full of pencilboards but they're limited to like 5 anime series. Not much variety there. I might pick up the hobby but I have too much DVDs and manga taking up space.

Thanks for your applause, I have tried to to that, but I still need a lot of work. Sometimes it just comes naturally. Females are very versatile, you can give long wavy hair, curly hair, short hair. You can draw them with big eyes, small eyes, etc. The best part is drawing the clothing. If you do deiced on taking up pencil boards as a hobby, I can recommend a great site where this guy named David sells high end stuff to common releases. I can also give you advice on rarities you should buy if you have the money, or you have the chance to get them for a steal. We can be "pencil board buddies", I know that was super cheesy, but had to write it. If you don't mind me asking are you male or female, where do you live?

I can do faces decently but clothing...I need to work on folds. I guess practice makes perfect so I should get to it. What's the address for the pencilboard site? I need to see what's out there to catch my interest. Though school is in a couple of weeks for me (I go to CSULB) so I should start saving up for books. Anyone else on this board collect boards? I'm male and I live in the San Gabriel area in southern California.

Wow, we live in the same state. The site is Shitajiki.biz . Yes I know books are terribly expensive, but hey what can you do. Let me give you some advice. If you start collecting, start with doujin, store promos, premium. The site is fairly easy to navigate, I think you'll like what you see.

Just curious, where do you go to school? The site looks good but it's hard to tell if the items are in stock. I'm already interested in some of the One Piece boards.

If they weren't in stock, the pic wouldn't be there. Every pic that's on there is in stock. But there is no shopping cart, you would have to pay by sending money through paypal, or postal money order. I have paid cash and it's gotten there (he lives in Japan). David is extremely trustworthy and will never rip anyone off. I just started attending ELAC, it's a community college in East La. I'm very happy there and feel comfortable around everyone. Everyone there is super nice and actually care for my future.

Argh I'm really tempted to buy some but I think I might go overboard. As far as I can tell, the ones I want are official studio art, not doujin though.

Anyone seen Coyote Ragtime Show? God, the first episode blew me away. Ialso like the fact that main character is a middle aga badass and not some generaic pretty boy or girl.

^ I got the standard version. How is the figure/steel case? I haven't seen Coyote Ragtime Show myself but a lot of people say it goes downhill after the first couple of episodes. I agree with the change for the protagonist though.

Now that I look at the girl more, I think it might be Fumitsuki from Happy Lesson.

Nothing special. has a steel case and two disc.

I only saw the first three episodes and those were great(dub actually better than the japanese one). yet to see the others but heard same thing about it going down. It's only 12 episodes so not a bad series to collect.

The protagonist, Mister is awesome. Just love him + the lolita android girls lol.

Well today I recieved Ninja Scroll 10th Anniversary Special Edition by mail. Just let me start by saying it does look better. One issue that once plagued the previous release is now gone, before the transfer was badly compressed causing pixels to disperse all over which send out a nasty effect. Sort of like when watching a video on youtube. The film itself was well restored, there were a couple of white spots that looked like dust, but I mostly think the film was meant to have them sort of giving the impression that there are particles in the air. The color palette is one hundred percent original and pure. This film looks as it originally did ten years ago except sharper and free of any technical complications. All in all I'm satified, I haven't seen it in widescreen, but I read that the picture quality is not as good as it's original aspect ratio version which is fullscreen. According to many reviewers the widescreen version looks softer. This new release does not have many features, the only one's it has is interviews with the Director and American voice talents. Other than those two featurettes all previous features from the old release were carried to this new one. It brings a poster, postcard and one insert a slipcase and a paper case within the slipcase. Anime films don't get the oppotunity to recieve new transfers, I guess those of you who care about these things should consider yourselfs lucky, I know i do.

FYI, that Chi model from Chobits was also released with one of the manga volumes, in a collector's box. It came fully painted & assembled in that release.

Does anyone have any cels? I have a couple I picked up, although I am not even sure which series they are from right now (they are buried somewhere in my room...) I have a couple from Slayers, a Tenchi (I think,) El-Hazard, and maybe one from Golden Boy.
