Here is a more complete list of the bonus features. It is in French, but I think you can get the idea.
Hmm, just one theatrical trailer? With all those theatrical re-releases you'd think Disney would bother to include them too... At least one is better than no one (coughTheLionKingcoughMulan)

Mix of Dictionary.com's translation of the French list as well as what we've already seen in the English specs list:
- The Making of Bambi: "A Prince is Born"
-- The History
-- The Characters
-- The Actors
-- The Art Direction
-- The Music
-- The Legacy
- Deleted Scenes
-- "Winter Grass"
-- "Bambi's First Snow"
- "Restoring Bambi"
- Art Gallery (Character Designs, Storyboards, Merchandise, etc.)
- Inside Walt's Story Meetings
- Disney Time Capsule
- Excerpt from "Tricks of the Trade"
- "The Old Mill" animated short
- Theatrical Trailer
- "Bambi II" Sneak Peek
- Games
-- "Adventures in the Forest" (8 adventures dispersed through 4 seasons)
-- "What's Your Season?" Personality Quiz
-- Disney Storytime: "Thumper Goes Exploring"
-- DisneyPedia: "Bambi's Forest Friends"
-- Virtual Forest (evolves through all of the seasons)
I have no idea what's up with the Walt's Story Meetings feature. I think it may be a mix between a commentary track and a branching feature because we're told that this feature accompanies the film itself (see the UK press release) and that we're shown production sketches, actual vintage footage, and a voice actor reading from Walt's personal notes. The only way this can be accomplished is if the voice actor portions are played over the main film, and then in certain portions, it branches off to behind-the-scenes footage and stills.

There's a new trailer up at Disney.com showing some of the bonus features:

Very very classy trailer. I'd have expected Disney to market Bambi at little kids, but instead they seem to be aiming this at adult fans. The Walt's Story Meeting thing seems to be exactly what I thought it'd be: a mix between a commentary and a branching feature. I just hope they handle the branching segments well. Back to the Future's DVD had something similar with Michael J. Fox and it was handled rather awkwardly in terms of transitioning to show the film with a video window in the foreground. The deleted scenes seem to be fully animated which is both a treat and an annoyance when you know there's more (grizzlier) footage out there that Disney's apparently shying away from.

I'm probably the only one that is really wondering how Bambi II will look?

no, I am also quite interested. Becuase this film has animators such as Andreas Deja working on it, I am really interested to see what the quality of the animation will be like!

Thanks for the update, ichabod! I'm glad we get to see a little more of what the bonuses will be. The Forest Adventure Game looks a little bit interesting. Also, I love how they used the music from the Mulan II trailer. Is this their new trailer music?

I agree about the aim of the trailer - it keeps yammering on about "memories" and "timeless classic", etc.
The scene they showed during the announcement of "deleted sequences" was just the one from the film where Bambi's mother introduces him to Faline... it's not unused animation. I doubt the deleted scenes are fully animated - it'd be a treat if they were, though.
Jens wrote:I'm probably the only one that is really wondering how Bambi II will look?
Feh - it will probably
look decent enough - what with people like poor Andreas Deja working to make it so. It's the entire concept of making a cheapquel to this film... it's
Bambi, for gawd's sake.

It seems quite apparent that there is
no shame left at that shill of a studio anymore. e_e If it truly
does turn out to be that silly "teen angst" plot that we've heard of, I'll just laugh. It may piss me off, but a such a story as that... to use in
Bambi II, no less... is just beyond absurd! >_<
And of course, I'm sure the majority of people here will simply love it. Or exonerate and rationalize their way into liking it.

Wow, 53 minutes! This sounds really nice and kinda makes up for some of the other rather short extras (and the lack of more theatrical trailers!)

Although it's good to see that the "making of" is a good length, the rest of the disc seems rather short. Excluding the kiddie features, there's only about an hour and a half's worth of substantial features. Hopefully quality will mean more than quantity in the case of Bambi.

Between "Inside Walt's Story Meetings" and the "Making of", you have over 2 hours. Looks like another half-hour with the other stuff.

I just got an email from Disneydirect.com saying that Bambi is now up for preorder! They have the usual Litho and Plush/Pin offer, which is really nice. The only thing I don't understand is that it says it premieres on DVD on March 1, 2005 but under each option it says the DVD will ship on 2/09/2005. Either way, I really can't wait for the release!

Don't take that too seriously. I've preordered movies from Disney Store before, including Aladdin, and they always said it would ship after the release date, when I actually recieved them days before the release date.

i really like those Menu screen caps, i don't think they posted the main page, but the rest look great, i hope it stays that way for the U.S. DVD.
i just still don't understand the Enhanced for Home Theatres Mix feature, i can Lion King and Aladdin having those, but Bambi?
thanks

I really,
really hope those French menus stay the same for the U.S.!! Those are beautiful! Nice and simple, too - no bad plastic CGI model of Thumper showing us around the different menus.
saving107 wrote:i just still don't understand the Enhanced for Home Theatres Mix feature, i can see Lion King and Aladdin having those, but Bambi?
Yeah, I can't really see how "enhanced" they can make
Bambi's audio, but I guess we just have to wait and see. Maybe it will make the creepy
Jaws-prototype theme that they use for Man's ominous presence all the more effective!
