Yeah, I didn't like that either. All the categories should've been presented live. I wish there had been a stronger backlash and ABC would've been forced to abandon the idea. Now that they've done it and nobody seems to have complained afterwards, they'll do it every year. And maybe they exclude even more categories from the live show in the future, like the BAFTA Awards do, since it seems they've copied the idea from them.

Well, I guess it wasn't predictable for the general audience; just for those who follow these things. And to be fair, though the favorites in each category won, some important ones (like Best Original and Adapted Screenplay or Best Actress) weren't completely locked, so it was still interesting to see if the favorites actually got the award or not, as was seeing if
CODA could actually win Best Picture having just three nominations, which I think had never happened before or at least not in a long time. Anyway, I don't normally have an issue with the awards being predictable if I find the winners deserving. I guess my real issue was that I was a bit disappointed with some of the choices, especially Best Picture, as I think
The Power of the Dog was a superior film. But I really liked
CODA too, and its win was very important for deaf actors and the deaf community in general, so in that regard I'm happy for its victory.
Regarding the ratings, I agree about them being lower nowadays in general and it's true that many people just tune in at the end to watch the big awards of the night, but there's a big peak just after Will Smith's incident in the graph, so I think it must've had some effect on the ratings as well, at least in that portion of the show. But how would that have happened? Did people learn about it on social media and turned the TV on to see it for themselves?
