^That's a cool idea as an alternative to the usual character posters. Pixar has also created a website for the 4*Town boy band where you can listen to a snippet of "Nobody Like U", the song which was also featured in one of the trailers.

No problem! :)
blackcauldron85 wrote:I'd like to be a fly on the wall in that meeting when they made the title decision...no other words fit?! :p. Or they were going the Tangled/Frozen/Gigantic route (for a non-fairy tale...)...
Yeah, there must be lots of better titles than the one they chose for Spain.
Sotiris wrote:This is the best trailer so far. It looks really cute and sweet. It's surprising how much anime/manga-inspired it is. I think it will encapsulate well the struggles girls go through at that age. I'm glad the film will explore Mei's relationship with her dad too. Their family dynamic seems similar to the one in Brave.
I agree that's the best trailer so far. It made me more excited to see the movie. And I agree about the father-daughter relationship. By the way, here's the trailer with English subtitles.
Sotiris wrote:The part where Mei's trying to divorce herself from her red panda form piqued my interest. I wonder what the repercussions of that will be.
Yes, that part was really intriguing. It also looks like a moon eclipse might have something to do with the curse.

A documentary about the making of the film is premiering on Disney+ on March 11, 2022.
Embrace the Panda: Making Turning Red is a feature documentary about the all-women team at the helm of Pixar's original feature, Turning Red. With behind-the-scenes access to Director Domee Shi and her core leadership crew, this story shines a light on the powerful professional and personal journeys that brought this incredibly comical, utterly relatable, and deeply heartfelt story to the screen.

^It's great that it'll be released the same day as the movie.

Here's a new book cover and some new merch in this article.

Farerb wrote:The girls' names are Abby, Priya and Miriam. I personally hope that Miriam is Jewish, since there's always a lack of Jewish characters in animated films, it'll be nice to have one.
The character's full name is revealed in this activity book. According to Wikipedia, Mendelshon is a Polish/German Jewish surname, so she has to be Jewish.

I wonder if she’ll be practicing. It’s nice to see oneself represented on the screen

Yeah, it's not for nothing that German composer Felix Mendelssohn's music was vilified by Nazi Germany.

His music rocks.

According to reporter Drew Taylor who watched footage of the film during a press event, Mei breaks the fourth wall in the beginning of the film, addresses the audience and acknowledges the title card when it comes on screen.

I thought it was already known that one or more of the children were Jewish. I guess I just assumed so from their designs? :?

If you don’t see much of her hair in the back, the Jewish character could be mistaken for a boy. I’m specifically thinking of the photo on the back cover of the D23 Spring 2022 issue. Nothing about her face, clothes and posture reads as feminine. Unlike the other 2 of Mei Lee’s friends.

His name is the first thing that appeared when I googled the surname. I don't know much about classical music and didn't know who he was before, but I saw he was also Jewish.

Yeah, it's true that she doesn't look very feminine. I think she was described as a tomboy in one article.

I'm proud of Disney for speaking out and taking some action. They're the first entertainment company to do so, I've read.

They should go a step further and exit the market altogether. Russia has chosen their path. Let them.

It’s high time ordinary Russians figure out the danger they are in.

I can see what they are going for, although to me the tempo feels a bit...slow? and they should've gotten someone who sounded closer to n-sync or other boy bands of the era since. Heck, would it have been unreasonable to just re assemble them to do it? lol
Maybe they don't even sound like that anymore, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Oh, and the lyrics feel slightly too simple.

I like the song. It's not as good as '90s/'00s boy bands IMO, but it's fun. I'm excited to hear the other songs.

'NSync broke up a long time ago. Backstreet Boys and 98° are still together. And Backstreet/'Nsync members do have a side band called BackSync. I doubt Disney would've wanted to shell out $$$ for them, right? I don't mind at all that it's a new boy band...I kind of like that they're their own thing, their own band for Mei & friends.

Agreed.

I'm surprised they didn't get Backstreet Boys back to do a few new songs for this. I mean, the band probably isn't doing much these days and wouldn't cost very much anymore.
