OMG, those clips are amazing.
I'm positive those are from Through the Keyhole. The color scheme of the film clips are WAY bolder than the ME/UAE transfer. I don't know if they're necessarily more accurate, but I'll say that I prefer these new ones. Wonderland's color palette should be bold and saturated. While we can't judge anything till the disc is popped in, I'm liking what I'm seeing.
And I'm also sure that this presentation will run throughout the duration of the film. The BBFC classification is more or less the running time of the film itself. If this were just a branching feature, we'd get separate listings for all the clips, and they'd add up to a lot less. That means this is an entirely separate video encoding on the disc, which is fine since Alice is so short.
That means this is basically a 70+ minute documentary. That to me is freaking awesome. I was worried by the press release's description that this would just be about the books, but it seems as though this will focus on both the books and the film.
I recognize Brian Sibley's voice in the clip discussing Alice being the potential first feature (which is a scenario I've often wondered about). That makes me happy since he's one of my favorite Disney historians, and he's easily one of the biggest Alice fans out there.
Oh, and the pencil test is sweet, too, even though I was expecting unique animation and not a rough pencil version of something in the final film.
Anyway, my excitement for this release has peaked to the point where I've been blowing off money on eBay buying random Alice crap I've been eying for years. I really do think that (audio and still features aside) this will be the definitive Alice release on home video. Once I get a hold of those missing laserdisc features, then I can make that claim more confidently. Either way, Kelvin is pleased.

What does everyone think this will be priced at on release day in stores? It is currently up for pre-order at Amazon.com for $27.99, but that seems a little high considering BATB was $22.99 on release day locally, and then you got $10 off of that with the coupon.
I was at Toys R Us yesterday and saw that you can get $5 off a Disney Blu-ray when you purchase a title and put a $5 pre-order deposit on Bambi in the same transaction. The offer was good until 2/28/11, so I think I am definitely going to pre-order Bambi on 2/1/11 when I go to get Alice. Hopefully, even if the list price is $27.99, I'll get $10 off that (if there is a coupon) and then another $5 off for pre-ordering Bambi. If all goes well, I might walk away with Alice for $12.99 or lower! I am assuming Toys R Us allows you to do all this in the same transaction since they seem to be really good with this stuff.
I've never pre-ordered a title in the past because I like keeping my options open to find the best price, but for both BATB and Fantasia my Toys R Us has had the best price so I think it is safe if I stick with them.
Now I am just waiting for that Alice coupon that we're hopefully going to get...

Okay, my moneyminded friend(j/k), if you count James and the Giant Peach, then there will be a coupon, and it will to about $16 max, depending on retail-exclusive discounts.

I hope there is a coupon we've been spoiled with the great Disney Blu Ray coupons!

I know, me too! I think the one for Fantasia came out a few weeks before the release, so with only 3 weeks to go for Alice in the US, I'm expecting the coupon literally any day now.
In fact, every time I see this thread jump to the top of the list with a new post, I am expecting it to be news regarding the coupon, lol, but so far, nothing yet!

Those clips looks wonderful ! This release certainly looks like its going to live up to its expectations.
I think its brilliant that Kathryn keeps coming back for every Alice release and other Disney events; shes seems deeply proud of both her films, and I'm so glad Disney ask her back again and again. Makes it all so much more worth while for me, to see the original talent.

Seems they only release them in advance when they're going to be a Diamond Edition, minus Fantasia.
Remember the coupon for Toy Story 3 came out a week before it was released.

Oh okay, I didn't realize that! The first title I bought on release day was Beauty and the Beast, so I wasn't aware that the timing differs for different caliber releases.

It's alright
but yeah, we're still in the second week of this month. It'll probably be out during this week or next week.

If "Through the keyhole" is like a CineExplore in reverse (bigger behind-the-scene screen with smaller feature image" I'm so excited...I never understood what's the point of some picture-in-picture features Disney offers on some titles. They are so small, anyone with anything less than a 60-inch TV can't find much use for them (case in point B&B work in progress version)

I was browing online and came across
this press release with promo stills over at MouseInfo.com. What I noticed is that some of those aren't overused promotional stills; some of them are screencaps from the new restoration, and clicking on them leads to a few more. I did a comparison between these and the previous DVD, and I threw in caps from the two YouTube videos for good measure. Keep in mind that some shots are a frame or two apart, and the Walrus and Carpenter YouTube caps are kind of askew because of how they're presented in Through the Keyhole:
Umm...holy crap? I immediately noticed how much more vivid the colors were both in the clips and in the stills, but I didn't realize just to what extent till I popped in my current disc. It's hard to say which is more accurate. The darker-skinned Alice was something I had questioned about the 2004 restoration, and pulling up the 1995 restoration (the one used for the Gold Classic DVD) on YouTube, I can see that Alice has fair skin consistently.
The 2004 color scheme seems to aim for realism while 2011's is more illustrative. I'm going to say that, for the most part, I prefer the more striking colors of the new restoration. What's interesting in toggling back and forth between my caps and the '95 restoration is that the '11 kind of falls somewhere in the middle as to how it presents the colors. It's got the boldness of 1995's with the brightness of 2004's. In other words, the colors are "cartoony" but you can still see the backgrounds and outlines just fine.
I'm too lazy to cap the Gold Classic transfer posted on YouTube, so just do a do a search and you can make the comparison for yourself. I'm sure there will be people who will hate how saturated the new transfer is, but I think it's a good representation of what Wonderland should be like.

Please tell me the images on the left are from the new restoration...
Because I think those images on the right look way too bright. Fakely bright. Fakely colored. Just...not good, and not like I used to feel Disney films...were.
Don't get mad at me. I'm not trashing the whole thing, I'm still probably gonn buy this, it could turn out better in the end, I am just stating how I feel, my initial reaction, which is...that it looks wrong and bad.
Alice's colors don't seem to match the dark environments she's in in most of those. Like she's not even in those dark backgrounds.

Omg I love the new transfer! And the old one! And the Older One too!
hahahaha. The older one makes the movie sooooo dark which I never understood as Alice in Wonderland is all about a bright and colorful, albeit twisted, world. Finally Alice's hair is as golden as Aurora's!

Which is which?
I thought the one on the right was until that picture of the orange-top came out where the one on the right looks godawful.

Actually I prefer the one on the left mostly. I just don't like how Alice is so dark in those.
They should've gone for more middle ground, brighten skin tones and leave everything else, except the carpenter which looks terrible.

Just a suggestion. Why don't we wait and see how this looks on our properly calibrated TV screens before we start denouncing Disney, or is that being too sensible?

Yeah, I actually meant to put a disclaimer in my post saying that the caps aren't necessarily indicative of the final product. Keep in mind, people, that the Caucus Race and Walrus and the Carpenter caps are from YouTube videos, and not even YouTube videos of the film itself; they're from the Through the Keyhole feature. So they're basically a copy of a copy in a way. It's also possible that the officially-released stills have had their colors tweaked so they pop out more when used for promotional purposes. We won't know what this disc will look like for sure till February 1st (or if lighthousemike or lilbrownpuppy get a hold of an early copy and post caps). I just did this comparison for the sake of curiosity.
