Can anyone confirm that Bambi 2 is getting released on Blu-ray in the US? So far, I haven't found it for preorder anywhere...

This is by far the worst blue cover sofar, it makes me want to dubble dip the dvd just for the cover alone...or is that their plan all along

Wow, I was wondering if those covers had been faked, but I guess not! I wonder if the US will see this release the same time the rest of the world does. First we get skipped over for Dumbo (which will hopefully be out in 2011) and then we don't get the BATB sequels either (not sure if that is a disappointment to everyone, but I probably would get The Enchanted Christmas). I haven't seen Bambi II up for pre-order on any US sites yet...

Odd that the "Inside Walt's Story Meetings" feature is 21 minutes longer than the film itself. It could be that the additional 21 minutes are what makes it "enhanced" (similar to how there are now "enhancement pods" for the Alien Anthology documentaries). The first deleted scene is a combination of "Bambi's First Snow" and "Winter Grass" from the Platinum (the running time doesn't include Andreas Deja's 30-second intro), while the second looks to be the two "new" deleted scenes: "Bambi Stuck on a Reed" and "Two Leaves". No word on what the deleted song is, though I still think it'll be the "Rain Song" that was on the laserdisc (well, within the making-of featurette) but not on the DVD. All that needs to be classified is the aforementioned deleted song, the Blu-Ray galleries, and whatever they port over for "Classic DVD Features" (my guess: Inside the Disney Archives, Disney Time Capsule, Tricks of the Trade excerpt, and trailers. Maybe the documentary since we don't seem to be getting a new one).

Goddamn you blu-ray snobs drive me nuts! you guys are all going crazy over a movie that already got a great dvd release, and now you wanna buy it again and go all crazy because the cover sucks! cmon.. and stop complaining about Bambi 2 or whatever, blu ray isnt even a big difference.. just a TINY bit of better picture and sound is not gonna increase the quality of the movie itself dramatically.. goddamn. just be thankful to have the movie out to the public at all.

What you said right there is, sorry for my french, a load of crap. A "tiny" bit better picture and sound? Have you even compared a DVD to Blu-ray film at all? I sat down with my 6 year cousin and watched Beauty and the Beast, although she's seen it several times, the first thing she said to me was "Wow, the colours are so bright". I've never been able to sit down and watch Dumbo in its entirety before, there's something about it that just never clicked with me, anyway I saw it for the first time in it's full length just last week when I watched it on blu. It really does help captivate and retain audiences, the attention to colour and detail are mesmerizing!

Now i'm by no means a blu-ray "snob", but if it annoys you so much why bother coming onto the forums? All you're going to receive is backlash and hate.

I don't think they've much left to classify; the entire Games section was redundant I'm assuming? They will definitely not have the Bambi 2 sneak peek; which actually I think is on the Bambi 2 disc funnily enough. Restoring should also be dropped though it should be updated if anything.

So the only things left are the galleries and Time Capsule, am I right?

I don't own Bambi Platinum evidently and I don't even recall seeing Bambi in full so next year's release is keenly anticipated by myself.

Both share the same name ("The Legacy Continues") and the same interview sessions with the participants. But the Bambi II featurette also has additional participants and different soundbytes with the people who appeared in the sneak peek version. Also, it's about twice as long, which isn't much as the sneak peek was a little under 5 minutes, while the featurette is 8 minutes.

Either way, the Bambi II sneak peek is likely not going to be on the Blu-Ray for Bambi.

Yes.

I'm surprised the Time Capsule wasn't classified, but given how there were mixed reactions to it (some thought it to be stupid, some thought it informative but fluffy, some hoped it'd be on future sets too, etc.) I'm guessing Disney doesn't intend to include it. Pity too, I loved the idea and hoped it'd be on all Disney releases. Especially since several live-action films had "Disney Studio Album", which focused solely on Disney films/shorts/TV/theme parks that were in production or released that year.

Also, the Diane Disney Miller intro is new, she wasn't on the previous DVD. Actually, aside from interviews in Walt: The Man Behind the Myth and a few Treasures sets, I don't think I've ever seen her in interviews for any Disney movies until recently (she'll be in the "Walt Disney Family Museum" featurette for Fantasia).

@BK, I wish they would stop teasing us with the shorts and gives a proper restored set of shorts in HD. Silly Symphonies in HD would be amazing!

Have any of them been converted to HD though?

I know there was one on 'A Bug's Life' but that's all I recall.

I know all the old non-Platinums, non-Disney Renaissance, have at least one if not two because Disney are too lazy to create any real features.

Bambi should because it's bonus features seem a little on the skimpy side at the moment, it's Platinum release was too anyway and since this is mere porting, well...

Also, they have dropped the Introduction by Andreas Deja (0:30) from Winter Grass since Albert confirmed that Diane's intro is new.

The laserdisc contained a 15-minute featurette called "Bambi: The Magic Behind the Masterpiece" (1997), which featured interviews with Peter Behn (Thumper), Ollie Johnston, Eric Larson, and Frank Thomas. But it likely won't be carried over the way that many of the laserdisc documentaries aren't carried over.

BBFC didn't pass anything for Bambi today, so the Deja intro may not be carried over.

Yeah, five times the resolution and lossless audio are a small difference . And why should we be glad that a studio releases their movies? That's what they do.

'Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest' high definition trailer! It looks amazing!

Digitalbits.com talks of an April 19th 2011 release...although they say they are going to double check that with Disney

To be fair, the current BDs of both movies you mentioned are using a different transfer than the old DVDs did. Just as when the Pinocchio Platinum came out and people were raving about how stunning the Lowry BD transfer looked compared to the older DVD. Well, that same Lowry transfer was also used for the Platinum DVD and looks stunning there, too!

I am not doubting that BD makes a difference, especially on a large HDTV, but I'm just saying the transfers/restorations being compared between the two formats should be the same. Because I have often noticed a HUGE difference between two different transfers of the same film (regarding colors, lack of grain, etc) even when they are both on DVD. (such as with Pinocchio, and I get the impression the new Dumbo transfer used on the overseas BD/DVD will make a dramatic difference - in EITHER format.)

Now i'm by no means a blu-ray "snob", but if it annoys you so much why bother coming onto the forums? All you're going to receive is backlash and hate.

Last I checked, this is UltimateDisney.com / DVDizzy.com, not bluray.com.

So there should be room on the forums for fans of either format, including those of us happily sticking with DVD and no interest whatsoever in BD, without being greeted by "backlash and hate".
