Man,I can't wait for this to come next year because I have just finished my freshman year in college and I am going to be happy that there is a movie that could totally speak to my demographic group.I also will be happy to see Sully and Mike in their crazier younger years.I also can say that dormitory experience is a great one as well.

I loved the teaser, especially the way Sulley has subtly been designed to look younger, and I definitely can't wait to see this film.

Ken Jeong, Rob Riggle and J.B. Smoove have joined the cast and Kelsey Grammer will replace the late James Corburn as the voice of Henry J. Waternoose.

Lookin good. This is the first time since Toy Story 3 I'm actually really looking forward to a Pixar movie. I mean, I was looking forward to Brave to an extent, but it has yet to really grab me. Cars 2 as well for more obvious reasons. Even though this one is another sequel, it still somehow feels more like a Pixar movie should to me.

Hey! Sulley wants to goof off in college instead of latching himself to his studies (as I would have expected) and Mike having to pry him away from his books and papers for fresh air and fun things. I look forward to seeing this film next year!

He'll be great as Waternoose!

Not saying that the movie will be bad but it is based on a terrible, ill-conceived idea. There is absolutely no reason for this to exist, what had Monsters Inc to do with universities? Also heard that Mike and Sully will be enemies turned friends in this movie, contradicting the original movie which clearly implied otherwise.

Not sure how Monsters Inc. implied that Mike and Sulley had been best of friends since the moment the met. If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't talk about their past together past the time they had spent working at Monsters Inc.
Monsters Inc has to do with Universities the same way that any job today has to do with Universities. In the film, scaring is a monsters
job. So, of course, they had to learn how to scare at some point in their life. Just as a doctor learns medicine, or a lawyer learns about law. I'm not sure what the confusion is here...
The "reason" this exists is because people want to see more from these characters - the same reason why any sequel exists. I think that's reason enough.

Oh they knew each other before. Mike said in the first film, "You've been jealous of my good looks since the third grade, pal." We assume they have always been friends but this actually makes a lot more sense.

Do we really know they start out as enemies anyway? I mean, I think of it more as they are still friends, even when one lets the other down, gets too competitive, etc. What we're seeing so far is just some good natured pranking. sure there will be conflict, but I'm not so sure it'll escalate into a whole lot.

I saw the trailer yesterday. While I sort of liked it, it felt juvenile, but I guess that's what they're going for. However, disco ball mike is pretty funny.

Exactly. There's nothing in the first movie to imply anything more than the fact that they just knew each other. So if they do start off as "enemies" then it isn't going back on anything already established.

Also, in the
teaser Sully said "Remember the fifth grade, when you spent all your time passing notes to Susie Boyles, the rest of us were studying geography."
So, they knew each other from before college (regardless if they were friends back then or not). I hope they don't make them in the prequel that they first met in college.

Scanlon also took the opportunity to talk a bit about the plot of the film. According to the director, Sully and Mike have actually known each other since grade school, but actually have always hated each other. Both are accepted into Monsters University and are upset about the other one attending the same school. What’s interesting is that both monsters are training to become scarers, which is equivalent to being an astronaut or a football star in the monsters universe.
If this is anything to go by then Mike and Sulley will already know each other before they both attend Monsters University and there won't be continuity issues.

Well, you guys are right in that the references in the original film can easily be explained as proof of their early dislike of each other but I cannot help but feel they did not intend this to be so originally. Still seems like a poor premise for a story in the first place, Monsters Inc had enough moments of them arguing before understanding the importance of their friendship and I fear a repetition of that.

I wouldn't disagree because while Pixar were producing Monsters, Inc., I doubt they had any plans for a possible prequel. If there's one thing Pixar have proven they're good at it's "buddy films"; Woody and Buzz spent three films bickering and arguing but it didn't diminish the characters or their relationship. It might well be repetitive of what we saw in Monsters, Inc., we won't know until we see the finished film, but from what we saw in the teaser, I think that the way the relationship between Mike and Sulley will be depicted in Monsters University looks like it will be both entertaining and funny.

Will the main story be of Mike and Sulley becoming friends, or will that be a subplot or consequence of the plot?
I was disappointed with the trailer slightly, but I still have hope as it was only a teaser.
