Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (the first of the two films) had an opening of 48 million, which was more than Prince of Persia. And keep in mind that the budget to make the film was under 200 million.

Even then, both Tomb Raider movies were considered disappointments. I haven't seen them, so I cannot give my opinion about whether or not they were better made than Prince of Persia.

Both were par action films. Had some nice Jolie shots, some surreal scenes and the like. They were popcorn films at best. I cannot compare them to the videogames that inspired it because I've only played one of them.

I think Persia might do better in the long run, but not break any ground.

I saw this today and liked it well enough. The production values are outstanding, and I enjoyed the banter between Dastan and Tamina. The exposition was clunky, though, and the possibilities for the dagger were endless and yet rarely utilized. Still, I had fun with this. It's not up to the level of the Pirates trilogy, but I think it's more polished than the National Treasure films (if we're going to compare Bruckheimer/Disney franchises. I'll pretend G-Force doesn't exist). I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, and supposedly Disney's happy enough with the foreign gross so far that they may greenlight one very soon.

I still don't think it's just going to be called Winnie the Pooh. For Star Trek it made sense because they were rebooting the franchise and starting from scratch. With Pooh, this is a direct sequel to the original. It can only be considered a reboot in the sense that it's ignoring the stuff in between the original and now. So I'd look at this more as Superman Returns than anything.

Just saw this movie today, and it truly rocks!!!

There is something there for everyone, and the adult humor is very adult and the kids humor is there for those who don't understand the adult humor. The big government jokes got the biggest laughs, but there is just a really good story and action throughout.

Not what I was expecting with the Disney logo on it. Surprised the heck out of me. Saw previews to "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" in front of the movie.

Highly recommended for just pure entertainment.

I agree, it definitely will appeal to all audiences. I enjoyed all the stunts and action, but loved the romance too!

I just watched Prince of Persia today. It was quite good; IMO it was better than Iron Man 2 or Alice in Wonderland for that matter which were recent box office hits.

The biggest negative was the whole ostrich guy scenes. His character was totally lame and pointless. Totally unfunny for a comic relief. Also, some of the dialogue was silly and cliche here and there. The romance although employed the usual I-first-can't-stand-you-then-fall-in-love-with-you trope, was executed quite decently. There is no need to mention the superb visual effects, the costumes, the scenery, the photography etc which were all amazing. The acting was fairly good, the action scenes interesting and the overall narrative engaging. There were a few predictable moments in the movie like who was the real villain etc, and a few redundancies but that did not affect the storytelling significantly.

All in all, I enjoyed the movie and hope that they will finish the trilogy.

I saw Persia a week or so ago, and I absolutely loved it, as did both my parents (and my mom really doesn't usually like "that kind of movie").

Domestic: $88,552,068 27.7%
+ Foreign: $231,000,000 72.3%
= Worldwide: $319,552,068

Do people think that Prince of Persia will be able to break 350 millions worldwide? 400? Will it break 100 millions in America? And have anyone heard news on a second film? Any speculation at all?

Disney should make a sequel IMO. Though a disappointment in the USA the movie has earned a lot of money in the rest of the world and made a profit. Sale of DVD/Blu-ray and all the other merchandise should make enough cash for Disney to make another movie. When the sequel comes people will be more familiar with the story/concept and more people will go to see it in cinemas I would think. And don't Disney realise what they can do with Prince of Persia in their theme parks? It has huge potential if you ask me.

Besides, Disney's marketing for this movie sucked. The movie was marketed like it like it was the start of a new franchise, another Pirates-movie. They should have marketed it like it was a regular movie. Here in Norway, the date of the premiere was emphasized on advertisement posters, not the title of the movie. With better marketing (and perhaps a slightly more tight budget), I'm predicting that Prince of Persia 2 will be a an even bigger success than the first one. (Yes, I'm calling it a success when a movie has earned more than 300 million dollars at the cinema. Disney must lower their crazy expectations - every movie Disney release can't make as much money as Pirates, the first Narnia or Alice in Wonderland. If there is a nice profit, Disney should be realistic and pleased with that).
