I see no reason why these would need to be altered, considering the fact that if Ariel has no tail, she would obviously be naked from the waist down and 2.) the shots all go by so rapidly, with no completely graphic depictions it doesn't even matter.

Actually, nachonaco, my parents are EXACTLY the same way. They absolutely dont understand why anyone over the age of 10 would like Disney movies....I've tried explaining it to them time after time, but they don't listen to me. They will just never understand that I not only love Disney for nostalgia purposes, but also because I truely do consider Disney animation as ART...being an artist myself, I reallly respect the amount of effort put into each animated (not Just disney!!) film!! My parents also see my love of DAC's as being some sort of "phase" that I will get over, and they think i will severely regret spending 100's of $ on Disney DVD's.
aw that sucks your guys parents think that way, my parents adore Disney, like we try to go to a Disney park at least once every year! So I guess I'm pretty lucky that my parents accept what I'm interested in. But I truly don't understand how people think disney movies are just for little kids! I mean the medium origionally started to entertain children but its come so far since then.
question for lighthousemike!!!

Thanks so much for the additional screen captures... the movie looks so flawless and vibrant... I can't wait to get it.
I would like to see a screen grab of the "Set Up" option on disc one, so that we can see if the disc includes the original audio when the film was shown in theaters and also to see how many language options we get.
And we have to see screen grabs if the priest scene is really altered and check if Disney tampered with the more questionable scenes (such as Ariel turning into a human after Ursula's spell).

Oh, that's the same thing in my situation, skyler! My parents embrace my loves, not repel against them.

I love the menu pics they used. These might easily be my favorite menus out of the Disney Platinums.

OMG!! this is soo awesome!! Im soo excited for the DVD!! I cant believe that disney kept pp a secret untill now! They really do know how to make a disney fanatic freak! haha! I was excited about 101 but oh well we will still get it eventually-we better anyway. Maybe they should just release 3 platinums next year that would be AWESOME! It looks like tlm has ALOT of special features and im soo excited to watch them all and see the movie cuz i havnt seen it in YEARS so itll be like seeing it new all over again. and I hope the restoration for robin hood isnt as bad as the trailer makes it seem the gold collection looks better than that! I wonder why they dont have a preview for jungle book...cinderella had previews for lady and the tramp and the little mermaid. BUT THE LITTLE MERMAID LOOOOOKS GGGRREEEAAAT!!!

GAAAAH!!!! IM GONE FOR 2 DAYS AND ALL THIS HAPPENS?!?! IM NEVER GOING OUT OF TOWN AGAIN!! LOL
Everything looks great!! Now I definately cant wait till Oct. 3!!!
Edit: Now that Ive had time to jump around and be excited, Ill post my thoughts
Robin Hood: Looking forward to adding it to my collection. Not much else to say here.
Peter Pan: As for it being switched with 101 Dalmations... hm... Im kind of torn between it. Although I do like Peter Pan and I have friends going crazy that its coming out, its just been longer since seeing 101D. I love the trailer though.
Tinker Bell: Not bad. Very mystical. Looking good so far, but the defining moment will be when we not only see, but hear Tinker Bell.
Cinderella III: Im actually very excited to see it. Everything about it is just great.
The Little Mermaid III: The teaser trailer was awesome. It gave me chills. Yes, that is Melody's locket and the eyes at the end are Ariels. I guess whoever posted that it would be Ariel telling Melody her story is right and this is probably what "The Little Mermaid: Reflections" is. Then comes the musical sneak peek.... why? why that song? Im very annoyed by the way Ariel looks. I will have a very hard time sitting through this one if she looks like that all the way through. And her hair... not only does it look too short, but it seems too... tame. Her hair has to have that "free" quality to it. Jodi sounded amazing (as always) the person doing Flounders voice wasnt too bad.
The Little Mermaid PE: AMAZING!!! Im just in awe of how beautiful everything looks! Some of my favs:
Like someone mentioned before, I just hope they dont edit certain things like when Ariel is turning into a human or the infamous Priest scene. Although I think I already heard somewhere that it did get edited.
I despise that disc art... I hated it on Cinderella and its definately not working here either. Whoever designed the disc art for these two should get fired. Also, Im bummed about the slip cover issue. Again, that person should also be fired.

I also dont care much for the picture of Ariel on the spine of the cover. And the back cover is kind of... um... boring. I still think it should have had Scuttle and Eric on the back of the cover.
I am more than thrilled for this release seeing as TLM is my favorite movie EVER!! I just really cant wait for it.
FYI, Ive been informed by a friend (dont know if shes right yet) But if you pre-order TLM at Toys R Us, you get a TLM jewellery box.
Thank you lighthousemike for posting all of this!!!

I see, I wrote it here just to know if the sills (on the new DVD) was alterated (because Disney Company said so). Anyway, if you assure me that the still are just the same, I'm happier than ever!
If you want I can move my intervention on the "Little Mermaid Press Release" thread.

This really pisses me off.

The worst part of it is that instead of just disapproving, nachonaco and brotherbear's parents
force and
oppress them, and prevent them from buying Disney DVDs.
THE MONEY BELONGS TO NACHONACO AND BROTHERBEAR, SO LET THEM DO WHAT THE HELL THEY FLIPPING WANT WITH IT! AND STOP INTERFERING AND MAKING THEIR LIVES MISERABLE!
I'm sorry for writing in all caps and the coarse language, but when reading these, my blood
really starts to boil.
I once created a thread called "People's Perception Of Disney. Totally Mad" where I reconstructed some heated arguments I had with schoolfriends about Disney. It also included malicious comments from teachers. I believe that
brotherbear posted in that thread, and I was very upset that time aswell.

I spent several hours last night reading through all of the posts in this topic as well as those within "The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition DVD Press Release," and I must say that I'm very excited about all of this! The screen caps look positively stunning!!! It's heartening to see that at least some (if not all) of the worry over TLM's restoration was groundless in the end.
I'm very interested in The Little Mermaid III's trailer. The locket was very clearly Melody's, as did the eyes seen briefly in the end belong to Ariel. I agree with the others who speculated that this could easily be a sequel/mid-quel in that it features Ariel recollecting her past for her daughter Melody. I wonder why then a shipwreck would be featured so prominently? Another possibility is that the locket itself, which we've seen King Triton give to Melody in TLMII, once belonged to Ariel (or her Mother?) and has its own stand-alone tale?
On the Tinker-Belle movie trailer, I've got to say that I am intrigued. I've never been a big fan of Peter Pan or Tinkerbelle, but the dark and slightly mysterious setting combined with that haunting music certainly grabbed my attention. I almost think that this should be a theatrical release if for nothing else than to show the world that not all CG animation since Finding Nemo should completely disregarded (a la Shark Tale, Hoodwinked, Madagascar, etc.)
Now if only October would come faster!

Congrats
I had hoped for the French version from France, though. It's soooo beautiful, but French always sounds beautiful anyway.

One thing I've noticed about TLM's restoration is how the colors now resemble the 1990 VHS much more than the 1998 ones (luckily!).
Examples: In the Fathoms Below sequence, the shades are more grey (as in the first VHS) rather than the almost aqua color in the later version.
Another example is where Ariel splashes out of the water when she becomes human, the sky is now orange-pink like in the original version and not yellow as in the 1998 one. I'm glad that's the case because I've always preferred the color scheme in the old VHS.
