I hadn't heard about this. My brother saw the Ashley Tisdale music video for "Kiss the Girl" on the Disney Channel and he said it was really bad. Out of the new music videos made for the Platinums, my two favorites were both Circle of Stars. I hope they have a Circle of Stars one for "Cars," but I'm also a big John Mayer fan, so I wouldn't mind if it was him doing a video for "Route 66." However, seeing as "Cars" is a single disc release AND the film is 2 hours long by itself, I don't want all of the bonus features to be music videos. We are already assured Rascal Flatts' "Life is a Highway," so I'm figuring that leaves room for a 15 minute featurette if they are going to keep the picture quality as good as possible... God I wish it was getting a 2-disc release!

Thank you so much Luke! Mater is my favorite character so I'm glad the new short is all bout him and the screen caps look really well done, but I didn't expect anything less from Pixar. I wish it were 2-discs...

Hello everyone,

Anyway I just read the following article about a Cars 2-disc DVD.

Here is the link

http://upcomingpixar.blogspot.com/2006/ ... bably.html

________________________________________________________

Today I decided to ring Buena Vista Home Entertainment, the distributor of the Cars DVD, to see if I could find out if BVHE had any plans to release a 2-Disc Cars DVD.

I just got off the phone to a representative of BVHE in Melbourne over here in Australia. She said there is currently only the 1-Disc but there probably will be a 2-disc.

No time given to when we get one but at least there is hope that we will get a 2-Disc. I am placing my money on one around the release of Ratatouille like others have theorised. If anyone from Disney or Buena Vista Home Entertainment is reading this and has a comment, feel free to email me at UpcomingPixar@gmail.com and I will

No big surprise, there. I have no doubt that Disney, famous for wanting to take as much of their consumers money as possible, will put out a 2-Disc Edition of Cars, just in time to promote Ratatouille!

As strong as I want my will to be, and as much as I fought against it, I'm just a sucker, I guess. I'll probably go against everything I've said, and pick up Cars on November 7th. I just love the film so much, and I can't wait to see it, again.

Yeah, I know, I fought so hard against it, and even started (and sent) a petition (which got NO response from Disney/Pixar/Buena Vista Home Entertainment). I know, just put a sticker across my face that simply says, "SUCKER".

I knew the single disc one was just something thrown together to sell during Christmas. My prediction is that the 2 disc CE will arrive in early June (probably either the June 5 or 12) along with a Blu-Ray version to promote Ratatouille. I probably won't be picking up the single disc, might rent it as I wait for a proper release. And I really hope they come up with some real art for the cover.

I'll be picking the November 7 release and any other future release. But that's the completist that lives in me.

I'll be waiting for that 2-Discer. I might rent the 1-Disc DVD just because I haven't even seen the movie yet! I know, it's sad. Anyway, let's hope that Disney will put a 2-Discer out, because that's the version that I am going to get.

I'll probably just buy the one disc version as I cannot wait for a 2 Disc set. besides, it's the movie that matters most.

I'm not sure if a BVHE phone representative in Melbourne saying "probably" gives US any news we didn't already have, but as I've said plenty of times in the past, I'd be shocked if <i>Cars</i> doesn't eventually get a deluxe 2-disc treatment. Pixar's track record, <i>Cars</i>' solid performance, and Disney's current predilection to double-dipping all seem to point heavily in the direction of it.

Does anyone have screen cap pictures for Cars yet? I was wondering what movies are featured on the "Sneak Peaks" menu option. Does anyone know?

If you're in Canada and have a future shop near you, at least you won't have to put up with that awful cover art... I don't know if other stores offer the same thing (if any do, I haven't seen it advertised yet), but when you buy the movie at Future Shop you get one of those Steelbook DVD cases (like the one used for the 2-disc edition that anime, Appleseed)

Image

It also lacks that cluttered ugly-quality the regular case has, thankfully. This is all provided you can stomach buying this craptacular 1-disc edition of the movie, though. Even I may buy this, if only for that steelbook case that hopefully I can use later when a watchable edition is released. Simple designs like this one (not to mention the 2-disc editions of TENG, Atlantis, and many of the Disney France covers) have a much more tasteful and elegant apperance, IMO. Most Disney cases (including the regular Cars one) make it look like hired a 10 year-old to squeeze as many clipart images as possible into a single image.

Anyone who's read my various posts in the topic of single-disc editions and double dipping knows that I despise them... in fact I've only double dipped once, and that was going from the 2-disc Signature Edition of Gladiator to the Extended Edition that came out about a year ago. I felt it was more justified than most double-dips simply because the new version didn't recycle old bonus features and the two releases were 5 years apart. I keep both on my shelf, as they're essentially different versions of the movie, and both feature completely different bonus materials and commentaries.

I still think as many people should avoid buying this release as possible. Despite strong evidence and many, many marketing decisions that support the contrary, Disney isn't stupid... poor sales of this single-disc release wouldn't automatically make them think the movie just wasn't popular (even though I thought it was the weakest of Pixar's movies, by far). That's no argument to support buying it... Disney should no better than to pull releases like this on us, and they should be prepared to suffer the financial consequences for doing so. It's just a pity that there are so many undiscriminating consumers out there who'll buy any POS a company decides to throw at them.
2099net wrote:Those are listed on the single disc release too though. They're not off the bonus disc. There's no indication what is on the bonus disc.

The Tokoyo Drift listing lists it's Bonus Disc's contents (it has a seperate listing): http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/788500

Thanks for the link Luke. I had actually seen that thread before (I even commented in there) but I must have scrolled over the screencap that included the Sneak Peaks. Oops! Thank you...

I live in Canada, and there are quite a few Future Shop stores around where I live, heck, I would say 90% of all new release DVDs that I buy, I get from either Future Shop or Best Buy (which is in the same mall). And for you Americans, don't worry, it'll probably be at Best Buy, since Future Shop is owned by Best Buy, or it might be at Target (which more recent bonuses have been), usually when I get a bonus from them it's avalible at one of those two stores. But I've found what the exact look of the steelbook is like at the site www.steelbook.com, just go to 'product', then click on 'showroom', to 'video' and it should be one of the options. Just shows the inside and outside. I'm probably going to pick this up, and I'll try to get some photos uploaded sometime next week.

Thanks for the review Luke. It sounds very similar to the Region 4 version, but no extra trailers other than Ratatouille (Sneak Peeks menu isn't featured). The menus all look he same and the audio tracks are the same.

One thing though, when watching the movie did you notice if it actually finished at 116 minutes or less, because I was wondering if the 116 was based on the theatrical release with One Man Band. The Region 4 DVD has the movie running at 111 mins 46 seconds and One Man Band 4 mins 21 seconds, which would equal 116 mins 7 seconds (no THX (+45 seconds)).

If memory serves, ending with the Pixar logo, the movie ran about 116 minutes and 20 seconds, which makes the menu listing of 116:00 slightly inaccurate. But, keep in mind, this is NTSC format, whereas you PAL guys will be sped up 4%.

Luke, excellent review of Cars! You echo my sentiments, almost exactly.

I do have one question. Is the scene with Lightning outrunning the train still there? Nobody who has the seen the DVD has answered that question. I'm hoping you can. Thanks!
