Well, I finally saw Cars tonight. And I must say that I really liked it. Not as much as the Toy Stories or The Incredibles, but it still made an entertaining piece. I'll admit that I did think it started pretty slowly (aside from the race at the beginning), but once Lightning arrived in Radiator Springs, it was fine. I think that it was more character driven than the other Pixar features, which made it more sentimental, which although a bit cloying in some places, made some places more heartfelt. Oh, and Larry the Cable Guy (Mater) and Tony Shalhoub (Luigi) are up there with Ellen DeGeneres (Dory) and Brad Bird (Edna Mode) in the Pixar Voices Hall of Fame.
I have to admit that my favourite bit was the self-parodies at the end, as I was in stitches laughing. I really think that if they rerelease the Pixar films on DVD, they should expand Toy Car Story, Monster Trucks Inc and the car version of A Bug's Life into shorts as bonus features. The tribute to Joe Ranft as well was much needed as well. I came really close to crying when I saw that pop up at the end.
And One Man Band was also very good due to its inventive zaniness and European flair. In my opinion, it was probably the best Pixar short so far.
