Hmmm...maybe I can make your whole week? I got this from
The Animation Guild Blog:
Disney Toons over on Sonora in Glendale continues work on "Little Mermaid III," which has been well-received by the test audiences who've seen it. It's been so well-received that the creators are adding scenes to punch it up even more.
Good news to me!

Come to think of it, this is really big news for a disney DTV movie, isnt it? Have any other sequals been so well received by a test audience like TLMIII supposedly has? So much so that they have made the movie longer??
just curious!

gee, dont cry so hard
i have high hopes for this movie. when i was little i fell under the spell of TLM. i recently watched it again and i wasnt
disappointed persay, it just wasn't exactly how i remember it. it was a great movie, don't come after me with torches and pitchforks!! it takes me more than just one watch to fall in love with a movie again. i am getting it for christmas and i will fall in love with it soon after that.
but i am really excited! i hope this movie is good!

I'm very excited for this movie! I hope it comes out in 2007 rather than 2008 as originally planned. I'm expecting it to be good, but I'm not expecting it to even compare to the original. TLM is one of the greatest movies of all time, IMO...Disney or non-Disney.

Well, I personally would take this rumor with a grain of salt, but a little over a month ago, Jim Hill had posted on
his website an interesting little testimonial called:
Buena Vista Home Entertainment starts to get out of the unnecessary sequel business.
As the name of tha article implies, it talks about some of the movies that Jim says Disney won't be making after all, even though it said so on the Little Mermaid DVD. The article says that John Lasseter is going to try and distance the company from the reputation of sequels and gravitate more towards quality storytelling. According to the article, the last real cheapquel will be
The Fox and the Hound 2.
This is actually causing BVHE to go up in arms over it. They think the general public is really going gaga for these cheapquels; it claims that
Brother Bear 2 was quite popular. Did you know that one of the next cheapquels to come was going to be a sequel to
Aristocats? Only instead of featuring all the characters, it was only going to focus on Aristokitten Marie. Of course, they did cancel
Dumbo 2 (thank goodness!).
The article claims that after
Fox and the Hound 2, there will still be sequels, of course, but only to accomodate two franchises: Disney Fairies (
The Tinker Bell Movie, which is the very reason why
Peter Pan is getting its PE treatment next year, specifically to serve as a promotional vehicle for The Tinker Bell Movie) and Disney Princesses (
Cinderella III and
The Little Mermaid 3). They will only start making more unnecessary sequels if actual theatrical releases start failing at the box office.
So maybe, just maybe, the future looks bright for us sequel haters out there. But the BVHE people are up in arms over it. I view this scenario as Disney Toon Studios being like the spoiled-brat younger brother to Disney Feature Animation. And as that younger brother, it has been out on a long drinking binge producing all of these awful cheapquels with nobody there to rein it in (and even encouraged by the equally lazy Uncle Mikey, now thankfully no longer an influence). Now that John Lasseter has taken the helm, Disney Toon has been cut off, and is now experiencing a doozy of a hangover. Probably just as well to let it upchuck "Cinderella III" and "Little Mermaid III" to purge itself of whatever pent up toxins remain in its system. Then it can begin the long road to recovery, eventually producing entertaining featurettes with new stories and characters perhaps adapted from previously untapped, shorter literary works, ideally positioned for future DVD releases. Here's to a quick rehabilitation with help from Mr. Lasseter!
Here's hoping that the days of rapid-fire sequels are gone...

I don't care about what Jim hill thinks, I believe Disney Duster's article. These sequals will be successful, as the originals have a massive folowing. ive read so many places that even if they don't agree with sequals, people will seeCinderella III and TLMIII out of curiosity. Just don't thinkl the worst!!

I wouldn't mind abot it that much. The Beetle Juice also use that song and Lion King used "Lion Sleep Tonight" another used song.,
And Zazu also sang, "It's a Small World" and "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts".

I never said that anything was set in stone about the future of sequels, just that there were rumors. I did say to take this article with a grain of salt. As for Cinderella III and TLM III, those sequels are being put out for the Disney Princess franchise, not necessarily just to be put out.

And Zazu also sang, "It's a Small World" and "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts".
Also in the broadway version Zazu sang some of Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast. Which I see the humor in that since its also a musical on broadway of course everyone knows that.
I've Got a lovley bunch of Cocunuts
Scar also apparently knows it as well since he Joins in as well singing this part:
Small ones, big ones bashing on your head (at least I think that's how it goes when Scar joins in.)
He also apparently hates "It's a Small World" afterall..

The news about this being a prequel (meaning no Melody) was defanatlly the best news we've heard about this. Hope in Movie+10
