I mean.... This is really shocking. Because I had the same reaction to the Beauty and the Beast teaser as you guys had with this one and I got shut down really quick. haha! (not feeling bad about it! )

As for this teaser, personally, I LOVED it.
I didn't gauge my expectations on anything beyond the teasers of PATF, Tangled, Frozen, and Zootopia.

I thought that this teaser was infinitely better than all of those. I understand a lot of people's anger over Maui taking over the teaser, but he's voiced by the Rock and that's why they did it. Besides, marketing today wants to push characters like him more so than Moana. Marketing wise, it makes complete sense. I'm sure that the first trailer in September will feature more Moana.

As for the Rooster... I'm gonna have to wait for the movie to judge it.

Also, yes, this teaser is 110% better than the Beauty and the Beast one.

What a miracle! Moana's teaser isn't complete marketing fluff! Though I agree that having her say not one word is a bit of a drag... but at least we'll hear her sing in the final movie so I look forward to that.

On a side tangent, Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 3 teaser also came out today and wasn't frustrating either. Perhaps the lost skill of making decent teasers is slowly returning?

(I kid, mostly. I'm just in a bit of a chipper mood right now because this Fall looks to be much fun.)

Wow, Lin Manuel Miranda's Hamilton dominates the Tony Awards, winning 11 trophies. Just 1 shy of the record 12 by 2001's The Producers.

After seeing the poster, I was hoping for something with a little less comedy and a little more.... I don't know.... ambience? (Perhaps something like the teaser for next year's BATB). But overall, I don't think it was too bad. I was at least pleased with the second half, though I agree with the comment about the song being a bit generic/Phil Collins-sounding. Maybe that's the obligatory bland pop song that will be in the credits. (That would be one tradition that has been in place ever since the early 90s, haha.)

As for Maui getting all the focus, I agree that it's annoying, but given that The Rock is the single most marketable thing about this movie, it's honestly understandable that they'd go that route. Hopefully the proper trailers will focus on Moana's story along with some of the more dramatic elements. They did that with Frozen, and considering how big Frozen was, I'm pretty sure they will want to go that same route, now that they've gotten word out that this movie exists. I mean, this is where most people find out about the movie, and sadly, this is the sort of thing audiences are drawn in by for animated films. I'm sure it will catch everyone's attention.

I agree with the comment that Moana looks really great in motion from what little we see of her. The character animation looks like it will be a step above Frozen, which I felt was weaker than Tangled overall.

Maui still looks terrible. It's possible to make "ugly" characters with appealing designs, but Maui is just an ugly character with an ugly design. It's too bad, really. The pig looks super cute though.

The environment and such looks gorgeous, as well the lighting. This will be a beautiful movie, though that's a given at this point. Hoping there will be at least a couple scenes that can surprise us with the visuals though. That will be a tougher order to fill.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that sounded like Phil Collins at first. Frankly I kinda would have liked him do it.


Anyway, the first teaser is pretty meh, but if Tangled and Frozen are any indication we won't care once we get to the next trailer.

Pretty average teaser. The only thing it made me excited for was the beautiful animation. Better than Frozen and Zootopia's first teasers though, and like those, I don't expect this to be indicative of the overall quality of the film.

Now that is a much better teaser trailer than the others before it. I sure am blown away by the striking art direction and animation, those will be something on the big screen.

I really love Moana's look. I hope she's a great character to go with it.

I'm in the group who loved the teaser. I really liked the hand-drawn animation of the tattoos and I especially appreciate that they weren't afraid to show this is indeed a musical and even mentioning the songwriters by name (I think The Princess and the Frog was the last one to do that in the trailers).

The whole thing made me think of Lilo & Stitch and considering what a huge fan I am of that movie, that's certainly a plus.

I also liked the teaser, it could have featured Moana more, but we got more from the film than I was expecting, so I wasn’t disappointed. If I remember it correctly, the first half with Maui and the bits where Moana is a little girl are part of the two scenes shown at the last D23 Expo. I suppose these are some the few scenes they have in finished animation. The art direction looks great and I loved the traditional animation at the beginning too. I also think that Maui looks better in motion, both he and Moana look better in the actual film in my opinion.

But now I'm confused about who is doing what in the music department. I thought Mark Mancina was composing the score, Lin-Manuel Miranda was writting the songs and Opetaia Foa’i was contributing with some traditional music for the score or for some of the songs. But according to Opetaia Foa’i in another article I found, he is composing the music for the songs and Lin-Manuel Miranda the lyrics:

I am the songwriter, Mark Mancina is writing the score, which I've been assisting him on because Disney realises everything has to be aligned to what I am coming up with. Then I have [lyricist] Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has done very well on Broadway recently with his smash hit Hamilton. It's quite an amazing team.

Does anybody know if that is true?

aaanyway I like that Maui is a shapeshifter...and yes it makes him very Genie-like. Big funny lug who shape shifts and assists the hero...yep.

I just watched the trailer, and I must say, I'm really excited about the movie. Moana really looks beautiful, and the animation is gorgeous. This is going to be a great movie!

According to Jared Bush, Chris Williams and Don Hall, are working on Moana as co-directors. Isn't it a little odd to have four directors on a single film? Does that mean that Disney doesn't have much faith in M&C anymore?

Oh my god. Really? I'm speechless and baffled. Why even have four directors, especially since the former were among the A-team?

Didn't they work with two other directors on The Great Mouse Detective?

Either way, yeah I also find this disrespectful. And people say that John Lasseter fosters creativity. (sigh)
