Maybe so, but Walt never made trailers as god-awful as that garbage spooling in front of millions right now on Toy Story 3. Seriously, I was as rah-rah for the project as one cuold be. I saw that trailer, and now I think the whole thing is weaker than the weakest Dreamworks crapfest.

It looks AWFUL. Absolutely AWFUL.

I've seen worst.
I don't see why it's so Dreamworks-esque in the first place.

The Hallmark of Disney is Sincerity.

The Hallmark of Dreamworks is Celebrating Insincerity.

Mocking sincerity didn't help Disney with Enchanted, and mocking themselves isn't going to help them with Tangled.

I'm praying that trailer is an aberration, otherwise get ready for some kind of bloodbath at Disney animation.

But Enchanted wasn't a mockery of sincerity. It was a very emotionally sincere film, and the fairy tale references with done with humor, but also with affection for the classics. This is notable different from Dreamworks' take on a fairy-tale spoof, Shrek, which seeks to spear the beloved tales through the heart with toilet humor and cynicism.

I think he was talking about how the marketing for Enchanted was very insincere, am i correct?

That said, without THAT trailer, I wouldnt have been there opening night. So the marketing counts for something.

It was a toned-down mockery in the final release, but a mockery none the same. Yes, they dialed back just to save face, but Enchanted started life as a Dreamworks clone, and so was this, and here we are now, with this simpering insulting trailer...it hurts to watch.

If the trailer is indicative of the final film -- $100 million if they're lucky.

But the movie ended up being probably one of the best none-pixar movies of the decade.

According to the people who seen the the test screening, majority of those scenes in the trailer[kung fu hair, etc] are not in actual production so you may sigh some relief.

This film is going to open 5 days AFTER Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1 comes out.

What are your thoughts on this?

I say this film can kiss any #1 box office spots goodbye. 5 days is not enough separation between this and a film that will likely overtake them. Tangled will probably have good #2 numbers though with their opening prior to Thanksgiving weekend. The only way a #1 is even possible is if there's a major slowdown in December with no competition and the Potter phase has died down by then.

Maybe if it does bad enough they'll change the name back to Rapunzel to rectify the failed marketing attempt?

I think that there's no chance that Tangled will be #1. Why aren't Pixar films opening against huge franchise sequels? Conspiracy theory...I'm telling you!

Probably because DreamWorks has sequels planned for, "Shrek (which is done with)," "Madagascar (part 3 is in production)," "Kung Fu Panda (part 2 is coming soon, titled, "Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom")," and, "How to Train Your Dragon (sequel unknown, but the novels have sequels, so there could be a sequel)." That is why Pixar has decided to create sequels...maybe.

After Lion King became big hit in the summer of June, Many of the Disney movies became a summer movie. Pocahontas, HoND, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan etc became summer movies instead of fall/holidays movies like Little Mermaid, BatB, and Aladdin.

Disney is more strict I suppose when it comes to releases in the US .... they will have their 'Fall family movie', but Europe release dates do get changed around so much. For example, Princess and the Frog came out in the holiday season for you guys, but february for people in the UK.

But yeah, I agree that its almost as if Disney are WILLING this film not to do well ..... a visual feast for the eyes, but dissapointing in content trailer, released just after one of the most anticipated films ever made, name changes .... just doesnt look good for this movie. Which is dissapointing, as I am so excited for it ! I dont want it to fail :(

Well, why aren't they upholding that tradition?

To tell you the truth, me too at my theater as well. When Pascal did his fist bump on his hand as an answer to Rapunzel to take Flynn Rider down, it made people laugh, not to mention Flynn's smolder look which also made people laugh as well.

beats me. This Disney marketing people, ya'know. They come up with ANY weird or bizzare marketing tactic for unknown reason.

Today, my aunt, who works and is experience in Hollywood media, told me that that recent movie, Knight and Day with Tom Cruise, the marketing exec thought it would be good idea to erase tom cruise's face off for some unknown reason to prevent people from know he's in the movie or something. Point being is that any of these big companies' marketing are always sometime irrational when it come to thinking logically with these. especially when dealing with creative(art etc) field.

Yeah, seeing that the next two movies in the DAC are being released on or the week after one of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movies, I can only imagine either...

a. the marketing is hoping for Tangled and Winnie the Pooh to be the "rebound" on the off chance that parents will only realize at the ticket counter that Deathly Hallows is PG-13 and change their minds and see a G/PG movie instead.

or

b. the marketing actually does desire for the movies to fail. o_o
